Five players from the Barton Community College women’s basketball team have signed letters of intent to play next season at the NCAA and NAIA levels. Cheyenne Hedrington will continue her career at Division I Grand Canyon University, signing at the Division II level were Ashton Bruner to Emporia State University, Mariana Lambert with Colorado State University Pueblo, and Taylor Mayes with Western State Colorado University, while Kailai Brantner signed with Ashford University at the NAIA level.

Two Barton Community College women’s basketball players were recently named to the Region VI All-Tournament Team. Mariana Lambert, a KJCCC West Division Honorable Mention selection, was joined by Phikala Anthony on the eleven member team announced at the conclusion of the Region VI Tournament held at Wichita State University’s Koch Arena. The Lady Cougars’ season came to an end last Friday coming up on the short end of 57-45 loss to No. 6 ranked Butler Community College in the semifinal round of the Region VI Tournament held at Wichita's Koch Arena. Having already pulled two upsets in the tournament, the Lady Cougars went scoreless the first seven minutes of the contest to dig a 12-0 deficit and were never able draw any closer than six the rest of the way. The loss ended Barton's season at 20-13.

Having pulled two upset victories already, the Barton Community College women's basketball team dug a deep early hole in losing 57-45 Friday to No. 6 ranked Butler Community College in the semifinal round of the Region VI Tournament held at Wichita’s Koch Arena. Going scoreless the first seven minutes of the contest, the Lady Cougars fell behind 12-0 and were never able draw any closer than six the rest of the way. The loss ends Barton’s season at 20-13 while Butler improves to 32-1 and advances to the championship game on Saturday.

The Barton Community College women’s basketball team pulled their second straight upset victory of the postseason knocking off Seward County Community College 61-56 in the Region VI Quarterfinals held at Wichita’s Koch Arena. The Lady Cougars, entering the tournament as the 12th seed, led from beginning to end over the 4th seeded Lady Saints to put to bed a four-game drought against Seward and the first postseason win over Seward since 2000. Improving to 20-12 on the season, Barton will next play at 1:00 p.m. Friday in the semifinals against top seeded and No. 6 ranked Butler Community College. Seward County ends the season at 26-6.

Three Barton Community College women’s basketball players were recently named to the KJCCC West Division All-Conference Team. Cheyenne Hedrington led the selections with a second team honor while Ashton Bruner and Mariana Lambert landed on the honorable mention team. The announcement comes just days after the Lady Cougars won their first round playoff game knocking off nationally receiving votes Cowley College 82-76 on the Tigers home floor. The Lady Cougars (19-12) will next play No. 20 Seward County Community College (26-5) in the region quarterfinals at 3:00 p.m. Wednesday at Wichita State University's Koch Arena.

The Barton Community College women’s basketball team bounced back from disappointment three days earlier to feeling the joy of redemption as the Lady Cougars upset nationally receiving votes Cowley College 82-76 in Arkansas City Saturday. The first-round Region VI Tournament victory improves Barton to 19-12 and ends Cowley’s season at 22-9. Barton will next play No. 20 Seward County Community College in the quarterfinals at 3:00 p.m. on Wednesday at Wichita State University’s Koch Arena.

The Barton Community College women’s basketball team had its chances Wednesday night at the Barton Gym but fell in overtime to Garden City Community College 66-65. Barton finishes the regular season 7-7 in conference play and 18-12 overall while Garden City improved to 8-6 in the Jayhawk and 16-13 overall. A win by Barton would have secured the fourth seed and first round home playoff game but instead the Lady Cougars will take the sixth seed into the Region VI Tournament and a trip to Arkansas City to play the third seeded Cowley College Tigers on Saturday. The 22-8 Tigers, who lost their last regular season game at Independence Community College 76-60, finished third in the Jayhawk East at 8-6. Game time at the William S. Scott Gym is set for 5:30 p.m.

It was not the results the Barton Community College basketball teams had hoped for Wednesday night at the Barton Gym, as both the women's and men's teams suffered hard fought defeats to Garden City Community College. The Lady Cougars dropped a 66-65 overtime game while the Cougar men lost 74-72. Both Barton teams will have the No.6 seed in the upcoming Region VI Tournament set to begin on Saturday. The Lady Cougars, who finished sixth in the standings at 6-8 and 18-12 overall, will travel to Arkansas City to take on the 8-4 and 22-8 Cowley College Tigers. The Cougar men, who finished in a four-way tie for third at 8-6 and 20-10 overall, will travel to El Dorado to take on the 7-5 and 22-9 Butler Community College Grizzlies.

For the second straight game the Barton Community College women's basketball team had the tall task of taking on a ranked opponent on the road. Saturday night at the Hutchinson Sports Arena the Lady Cougars rally came up short in dropping a 69-58 decision to No. 3 ranked Hutchinson Community College. After trailing by fourteen at halftime, Barton outscored Hutchinson by three in the second half including drawing to within eight in last moment of play. The loss drops Barton to 18-11 overall and into sixth place at 6-7 in the conference standings. The Lady Cougars wrap up the regular season on Wednesday hosting one of the teams they are chasing, the 7-6 Garden City Community College Broncbusters. Should Barton defeat Garden City for the second time this season, the Lady Cougars could move into fourth spot and host a Region VI first round home playoff game. Barton would need the scenarios of Pratt losing at Seward County and Cloud County getting a win at Colby. Game time for Wednesday's pivotal game against the Broncbusters is set for 5:30 p.m. at the Barton Gym with sophomore recognition night to immediately follow.

Trailing the No. 16 ranked Lady Saints by two early in the second half, the Barton Community College women’s basketball team simply got outworked for the last eighteen minutes to drop a 69-42 decision to Seward County Community College Wednesday night in Liberal, Kansas. The loss drops Barton to 18-10 overall and into a three-way tie at 6-6 for the fourth spot in the standings, further dampening the hopes of hosting a first round home playoff game. With only two remaining games in the regular season, the Lady Cougars will need to at least win one of the remaining two games to have a shot. Seward’s victory clinched a first round home playoff spot as the Lady Saints improved to 9-3 in conference play and 24-4 overall. Barton will travel to No. 3 ranked Hutchinson Community College on Saturday before wrapping up the regular season next Wednesday at home against Garden City Community College. Game time for Saturday’s matchup with the Lady Dragons is 5:30 p.m. at the Hutchinson Sports Arena.

Unleashing some fury after back-to-back frustrating losses, the Barton Community College women’s basketball team racked up forty-seven first half points in cruising to a 85-55 victory over Colby Community College at the Barton Gym Saturday night. The Lady Cougars shot 50% in the first half and limited the Lady Trojans to only 25% shooting to build a twenty-four point halftime lead. With the win Barton improves to 6-5 in conference play and 18-9 while keeping Colby winless in the league at 0-11 and dropping to 2-25. The Lady Cougars will begin their toughest two game stretch of the season taking on two nationally ranked teams on the road. Barton travels to No. 10 Seward County Community College on Wednesday then plays No. 3 ranked Hutchinson Community College next Saturday. Game time for Wednesday in Liberal, Kansas, against the Lady Saints is set for 6:00 p.m.

The Barton Community College women’s basketball team had their modest two-game winning streak snapped Saturday night at the Barton Gym as Cloud County Community College completed the conference season sweep winning 78-72. Coming off two wins on the conference road, the Lady Cougars could have moved into the third spot in the conference standings with the victory. The loss drops Barton to 17-8 on the season and into fifth place at 5-4 in the standings. Cloud improves to 14-9 on the season and is tied with Garden City at 5-3. Barton’s next game will be Wednesday at Pratt Community College in a 6:00 p.m. tip at the Dennis Lesh Sports Arena.

The Barton Community College women’s basketball team needed every point of its twenty-two point advantage in the paint Wednesday night at Dodge City’s United Wireless Arena to pick up their third straight conference road victory, defeating Dodge City Community College 66-64. Leading by fifteen in the second half, the Lady Cougars survived a Dodge City 14-4 run in the last four minutes including two Kesha Buckner missed free throws with two seconds remaining, to escape with the win. Barton improves to 5-3 in conference play and 17-7 overall while dropping Dodge City to 1-7 in conference and 14-10 overall. Playing the last two games on the road, Barton returns to the Barton Gym on Saturday for a 5:30 p.m. contest against Cloud County Community College.

The Barton Community College women’s basketball ended a two game losing streak in Garden City as the Lady Cougars won 80-62 Saturday night over Garden City Community College. Barton led by five at the break then outscored Garden City by thirteen in the second half to also snap a four-game losing streak to the Lady Busters. Barton improves to 4-3 in Jayhawk Conference play and 16-7 overall and while dropping Garden City to 4-3 in conference and 12-10 overall. The Lady Cougars will conclude their two game conference road stretch of the schedule with a trip to Dodge City Community College on Wednesday for a 6:00 p.m. tip at the United Wireless Arena.

Once the nation’s No. 3 ranked Hutchinson Community College got warmed up, the Lady Dragons took control Wednesday night at the Barton Gym to defeat Barton Community College 78-52. The Lady Dragons out rebounded Barton by thirty and outscored the Lady Cougars by twenty-two points in the paint to remain undefeated on the season. Barton drops to 3-3 in conference play and 15-7 overall while Hutchinson improves to 6-0 and 20-0 overall. The Lady Cougars will begin a two game road conference stretch beginning Saturday at Garden City Community College in a 5:30 p.m. contest. After a trip to Dodge City Community College on Wednesday, the Lady Cougars return for a home contest on Saturday, February 8, against Cloud County Community College.

The Barton Community College women’s basketball team jumped out to 12-2 run Sunday at Colby and never looked back cruising to the 82-47 win over Colby Community College. The victory was the sixth straight in the series over Colby and earned the Lady Cougars their first road conference win of the season to improve to 3-2 and 15-6 overall while Colby drops to 0-5 and 2-19.
