Five Lady Cougar Basketball players moving on to next level

Five players from the Barton Community College women's basketball team have signed letters of intent to play next season at the NCAA and NAIA levels.  Cheyenne Hedrington will continue her career at Division I Grand Canyon University, signing at the Division II level were Ashton Bruner to Emporia State University, Mariana Lambert with Colorado State University Pueblo, and Taylor Mayes with Western State Colorado University, while Kailai Brantner signed with Ashford University at the NAIA level. 

Earning second team All-KJCCC West Division honors, Cheyenne Hedrington led the Lady Cougars this past season averaging 15.0 points per game and 8.1 rebounds per contest.  The sophomore transfer from Champaign, Illinois, recorded nine double-double performances this season with single game highs of 32 points against Seward County Community College and grabbing seventeen rebounds versus Allen County Community College. 

Ashton Bruner ranked second behind Hedrington in both scoring (11.5) and rebounds (7.4) but led the team in steals (1.7).  The honorable mention All-KJCCC West Division honoree also placed her name in the Lady Cougar history books due in part to her hustle and getting to the free throw line.  Shooting a third best 16 charity throws in one game, Bruner also ranks fourth in a single season shooting 177 free throws.   The sophomore from McPherson, Kansas, also moved up to third all-time in the Barton charts as her two years at Barton produced 335 attempted free throws.  

Mariana Lambert came on strong towards the end of her one and only season with the Lady Cougars, ranking third on the team at 10.7 points per game while grabbing 5.3 rebounds.  The freshman from Sao Paulo, Brazil, also ranked first on the team in free throw percentage connecting on 89.2% in conference play and 78.9% throughout the season.  Earning honorable mention All-KJCCC West Division team honors, Lambert's postseason performance keying Barton's run to the semifinals also landed her on the Region VI All-Tournament Team.

A solid underrated performer for the Lady Cougars these past two seasons, Taylor Mayes gave Barton the little things that often don't show up in the scorebook.  The Hutchinson, Kansas, native was a solid rebounder at 4.8 per game while also scoring 7.7 points per game and led the team in blocks at just under one per game.

Leading the Lady Cougars in assists with 5.07 per game, Kailai Brantner's distribution from the point also put her amongst the top three in the Western Division of the KJCCC.  Coming to Barton from Henderson, Nevada, Brantner started all but one game during her sophomore season averaging just shy of seven points per game and 3.7 rebounds per game.
