Cold shooting Lady Cougars drop first conference game of season

The cold-shooting Barton Community College women's basketball team suffered its first conference loss of the season Saturday night in Concordia dropping a 77-61 loss to Cloud County Community College.   Despite trailing by only two at the break, 34% shooting in both halves of play sent the Lady Cougars to defeat in their first conference road game.   Barton drops to 2-1 in conference play and 14-5 overall while Cloud County remains undefeated in Jayhawk Conference play at 3-0 and improves to 12-6 overall. 

Looming next for the Lady Cougars is a 5:30 p.m. Wednesday date at the Barton Gym against No. 9 ranked Seward County Community College.  The 17-2 Lady Saints suffered its first conference loss of the season Saturday night in Liberal losing 61-55 to No. 3 ranked Hutchinson Community College.

Cheyenne Hedrington led only two Lady Cougars to score in double figures with 18 points and just missed her seventh double-double of the season finishing with nine rebounds to go along with four assists.  Ashton Bruner was the only other Lady Cougar in double digits with eleven points while adding six rebounds and three steals.  Kailai Brantner led in assists with five.

Cloud County had four players in double digits with three putting up double-double performances.  Jayna Smith led all players with twenty-one points and grabbing sixteen rebounds.  Jordyn Alexander scored eighteen with fourteen rebounds while Raneisha Duncan scored sixteen and led the Lady Thunderbirds with six assists and five steals.  Rounding out the double-double performers was Courtney Fisher with ten points and twelve rebounds.
