Strong first half leads Lady Cougars to second win of season

A day after knocking off the No. 17 ranked team in the nation, the Barton Community College women's basketball team won 86-71 Saturday over McCook Community College to wrap up weekend play in the Highland Hotel and Pizza Hut Classic at the Barton Gym.  The Lady Cougars led by thirteen at the halftime break to cruise to its second win of the season.  Barton will next play Wednesday at 7:00 p.m. against the McPherson College Junior Varsity squad in preparation of the upcoming Brown Mackie Classic in Salina, Kansas.

Freshman Cheyenne Hedrington led five Lady Cougars in double-digit scoring with twenty-two points on 8-of-15 shooting and four steals.  Taylor Mayes nearly captured her first career double-double grabbing a team leading nine rebounds to go along with eleven points.  Aston Bruner scored ten points and grabbed seven rebounds as Mariana Lambert and Brandy Winbush also contributed ten points each.  Kailai Brantner and back-up point guard Sharyce Warren led the Lady Cougars in assists dishing out five each.

McCook's Cydnee Ceballos led all players with thirty-one points to go along with fourteen rebounds.  Jenecia Jenkins dropped twenty-three points and Ashle Stokes scored each of her twelve points going 12-of-16 from the free throw line.
