Lady Cougars take out frustrations on Colby, score 47 first half points to cruise to 85-55 win
Unleashing some fury after back-to-back frustrating losses, the Barton Community College women’s basketball team racked up forty-seven first half points in cruising to a 85-55 victory over Colby Community College at the Barton Gym Saturday night. The Lady Cougars shot 50% in the first half and limited the Lady Trojans to only 25% shooting to build a twenty-four point halftime lead. With the win Barton improves to 6-5 in conference play and 18-9 while keeping Colby winless in the league at 0-11 and dropping to 2-25. The Lady Cougars will begin their toughest two game stretch of the season taking on two nationally ranked teams on the road. Barton travels to No. 10 Seward County Community College on Wednesday then plays No. 3 ranked Hutchinson Community College next Saturday. Game time for Wednesday in Liberal, Kansas, against the Lady Saints is set for 6:00 p.m.

"I thought we came out ready to play with a lot of focus and energy," said Barton head coach Carter Kruger in a post-game interview with the Great Bend Tribune. "Even more so than we've been playing with in our last few starts, which was great to see."
Cheyenne Hedrington led Barton in scoring posting her eighth double-double of the season scoring eighteen points and grabbing ten rebounds. Mariana Lambert came off the bench to bury 3-of-5 from behind the arc and convert 6-of-6 free throws to finish with fifteen points while hauling down eight rebounds. Ashton Bruner had a solid all-around floor game as the sophomore from McPherson flirted with a triple-double scoring fourteen points, dishing out nine assists with only one turnover, and grabbed seven rebounds.
Deja Cato was a one-person scoring machine in the second half to be the only Colby player to reach double figures. Scoring twenty-one second half points, Cato finished with a game high twenty-four points on 10-of-23 shooting while leading the Lady Trojans with six assists. Cato also tied Loren Evans for the team lead in rebounds with six.
