Cougar women drop heart-breaker to Garden
The Barton County Community College women’s basketball team had one slip away Saturday night at the Barton County Gym, falling to Jayhawk West foe Garden City, 55-52. The Cougars had the defending West Champions on the ropes most of the night, but let the game slip away late to fall to 0-3 in the West and 10-7 overall. Garden City improves to 1-2 in the West and 10-6 overall.

Buchanan latest in-state signee for Barton women’s basketball
Brianna Buchanan joined 5 other in-state signees for the Barton County Community College women’s basketball, signing a letter-of-intent to play basketball for the Cougars next season. Buchanan comes to Barton from Junction City High School, where she was named the team MVP the past two seasons. She is the 7th overall signee for new coach Lane Lord.

Harris 1st out-of-state signing for Barton County women
Brandi Harris became the 1st out-of-state signee for new Barton County Community College women’s basketball coach Lane Lord. Harris, a 5-7 point guard from Thunderbird High School in Phoenix, Arizona, signed a letter-of-intent to play for the Cougars next season. She will bring with her impressive individual and team success through her high school career, which included a pair of Class 4A state titles in Arizona as well as a runner-up effort her senior season.

Phelan stays close to home to play college basketball
Kiely Phelan decided to keep things close to home to begin her college basketball career, signing to play basketball for the Barton County Community College women’s basketball team next season. She was among the group of 5 signees released by 1st-year Barton coach Lane Lord today. Phelan started 3 seasons at Quivira Heights High School in Bushton. Phelan lives in nearby Holyrood.

Love signs to play for former coach at Barton County
Sharece Love was among the 5 signees released by the Barton County Community College women’s basketball team today and 1st year coach Lane Lord. She is a familiar face to Coach Lord, having played for him for four years at Wichita Heights High School. While at Heights, Love and her teammates complied an 89-8 record over four years with 2 Class 6A titles to the Falcons credit.

Glen to play basketball for Barton County women
Ashley Glen has signed a letter-of-intent to play basketball for the Barton County Community College women’s basketball team next season. Glen will be playing for 1st year head coach Lane Lord after spending the previous four seasons playing against him. Glen played for Wichita’s Bishop Carroll High School while Lord coached at rival Wichita Heights High School. The two schools battled for the City League title in Wichita all four seasons of Glen’s high school career.

Carlile signs to play hoops for Barton County women
Victoria Carlile was among the first 5 signees released by the Barton County Community College women’s basketball team and 1st year head coach Lane Lord today. Carlile comes to Barton from Liberal High School and the hometown of Jayhawk West rival Seward County. During her time at Liberal, Carlile proved to a big-time scorer and 3-point shooter for the Redskins.

Cougars name Lane Lord to take over women’s basketball program
Barton County Community College named Lane Lord as the coach of the women’s basketball program at the school Tuesday afternoon. Lord becomes the 8th coach in the illustrious history of Barton County. Coach Lord comes to Barton County from Wichita Heights High School, where he compiled two state champions the past three seasons. Lord takes over for Don Kayser, who resigned during his 4th season at the school. The Cougars finished this season with a 14-17 record and a 4-year total of 56-70 during Coach Kayser’s tenure.

Barton just misses out on 1st round upset of top seed
The Barton County Community College women’s basketball team put a rather large scare into the Region VI’s top-seed Coffeyville Red Ravens Tuesday night in the opening round of the Region VI women’s basketball tournament. Barton led Coffeyville much of the contest and by as many a 6 points with 7 minutes to play before falling to the Red Ravens in Coffeyville, 64-53, at Nellis Gymnasium. The loss ends the Cougars season at 14-17 while Coffeyville (22-9) advances to the quarterfinals in Salina on Saturday.

Cougars pull off upset win in final regular season contest
The Barton County Community College women’s basketball team pulled off an upset to end the regular season, defeating Dodge City 60-53 at the Barton County Gym in Great Bend. The win moved the Cougars to 4-12 in the West and 14-16 overall. Barton will travel to Coffeyville Tuesday to start Region VI action. Dodge City fell to 9-7 in the West and 23-7 overall. It was also a night that saw Akia Harmon post the 3rd highest rebound total in Barton County history.

Cougars lose at No. 22 Cloud; secure 8th spot in West for playoffs
The Barton County Community College women’s basketball team lost their contest at Cloud County Wednesday night, but with other action in the Jayhawk West, locked down the 8th and final playoff spot from the West in the upcoming Region VI Tournament. Barton fell 64-52 in Arley Bryant Gymnasium at Concordia but thanks to a Butler loss to Hutchinson, earned the playoff bid. Barton is now 13-16 overall and 3-12 in the West. Cloud, ranked No. 22, finished its regular season at 24-6 and 11-5, good for 3rd in the West. Barton will travel to Coffeyville for 1st round action Tuesday at 7 p.m. Prior to that contest, the Cougars will host Dodge City Saturday at 6 p.m. to round out the regular season.

Cougars drop road tilt at Butler
The Barton County Community College women’s basketball team dropped a 56-49 road decision to Butler County Saturday night at the Power Plant in El Dorado. Despite the loss, the Cougars held onto the 8th and final playoff spot from the Jayhawk West for the upcoming Region VI Tournament. Barton is now 13-15 overall and 3-11 in the West. Butler County is 12-16 overall and still on the outside looking if for the playoffs with a 2-12 West mark.

Cougar rally comes too late in loss at Hutch
The Barton County Community College women’s basketball team began to find their shot a little too late Wednesday night at the Sports Arena in Hutchinson, losing to Hutch by a 64-47 margin. A rough 1st half put the Cougars in a hole they could not get out off as they fell to 3-10 in the West and 13-14 overall this season. Hutch moved into the 6th spot in the West with the win, improving to 4-9 and 15-11. Barton is currently 8th in the West.

Barton women fall to No. 8 Colby
The Barton County Community College women’s basketball team lost to another ranked foe Saturday night, falling to No. 8 Colby, 62-41, at the Barton County Gym. The loss drops the Cougars to 3-9 in the Jayhawk West and 13-13 overall. Colby, currently 2nd in the West, improves to 11-2 and 24-3. The Cougars will have a showdown with Hutchinson Wednesday night in a contest that could determine 7th place in the West for the upcoming playoffs, giving the winner the inside track on avoiding the top seed from the East.

Cougars fall into tie for 6th with loss at Garden
The Barton County Community College women’s basketball team dropped into a 6th-place tie Saturday night, coming on strong just a little bit late as the Cougars rally fell short at Garden City 62-56 in a Jayhawk West contest. The loss by Barton dropped them into a 6th place with Garden in the league standings at 3-8. Barton is 13-12 overall while Garden is 12-12. The Broncbusters hold the tiebreaker, having beaten the Cougars twice this season.
