Phelan stays close to home to play college basketball

Kiely Phelan decided to keep things close to home to begin her college basketball career, signing to play basketball for the Barton County Community College women's basketball team next season. She was among the group of 5 signees released by 1st-year Barton coach Lane Lord today. Phelan started 3 seasons at Quivira Heights High School in Bushton. Phelan lives in nearby Holyrood.

As a senior, Phelan was tabbed as the Area Player of the Year by the Great Bend Tribune as well as being named Player of the Year in the Central Prairie League. She scored nearly 19 points a contest to go with 5 rebounds and 2 steals an outing. Those numbers were similar to her junior season when she also scored nearly 19 points a contest, grabbed 6 rebounds and had 2 steals per game.

In addition to her skills on the basketball court, Phelan also was selected to the 1st team All-CPL in volleyball as a junior and senior and is a 4-year letterwinner in track. Phelan also took 4th in the state in powerlifting.

In the classroom, Phelan has a 3.6 GPA and is a member of the National Honor Society. She has been on the honor roll all four years at Quivira Heights.

Kiely was the Central Prairie League Player of the Year as well as the All Area Player of the Year by the Great Bend Tribune. She has a tremendous work ethic and will play the 2 or 3 positions for the Cougars.
