    Payton Reynolds of the Barton Community College softball team was recently named to the National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) West All-Region second team recognizing Division I players of the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA).

    The Barton Community College softball team was again well represented on the recently released KJCCC Division I All-Conference Team with six players garnering distinction. Voted by conference head coaches, headlining the selections was sophomore Maddison Schofield earning first team outfield honors with Jayden Gonzales, Mickenzie Toler, and Payton Summers falling on the second team and Kaci Isaacson and Payton Reynolds landing on the honorable mention squad.
  • Barton Softball season comes to an end at Region VI Tournament

    The Barton Community College softball team’s 2017 season came to an end Saturday at El Dorado’s East Park as the Cougars returned home after a 1-2 record in the Region VI Tournament. Barton began play on Friday with a 10-3 win over Pratt Community College before being bounced on Saturday with a 9-5 loss to eventual runner-up Seward County Community College followed by the eliminating 8-4 defeat to Dodge City Community College. The weekend concluded the third straight season reaching the thirty victory mark as the Cougars finished 30-16 on the year.

  • Final games of regular season leaves Barton Softball in second place of conference standings

    The Barton Community College softball team hit the road to conclude the regular season returning home with a 1-2 record but sitting in prime position for the second seed in the upcoming region tournament. Returning to Liberal on Saturday to conclude the second game of the April 13 postponed game, the Cougars finished off Seward County Community College 10-1 to complete the sweep. Barton then reboarded the vans on Sunday traveling to El Dorado to face top ranked Butler Community College with the Grizzlies rolling to its 84th straight victory with 8-0 and 15-2 wins.
  • Barton Softball ends home season with short work of Colby

    The Barton Community College softball team closed out Cougar Field on Wednesday for the 2017 season with a double thumping of Colby Community College. Scoring five in the third combined with solid pitching and defensive plays, the Cougars closed out game one in the fifth tacking on three runs before carrying the momentum to the back end of the doubleheader plating seven first inning runs powering for another five inning shortened game 13-5. The fifth straight conference win moves the Cougars into third place in the standings at 13-8, improving to 28-12 on the season, while Colby slips to the fourth spot at 12-10 and 27-17. Barton will conclude the regular season on Saturday in El Dorado as the Cougars take on top ranked Butler Community College at 2:00 p.m.
  • Cougars split softball doubleheader in Garden City

    The Barton Community College softball team had to shake off an extra inning loss Saturday to salvage its Jayhawk conference doubleheader at Garden City Community College. Dominating the Broncbusters in eleven total innings back on March 4 in Great Bend, the Cougars saw a six run lead evaporate and transform into a tenth inning 11-10 loss in the opening game. Trailing in game two, Barton strung a pair of three-run innings going on for a 13-8 win to salvage the split. The results leave the Cougars in fifth place at 9-8 and 24-12 on the season with Garden City in sixth at 3-15 and 14-30. As the regular season begins to wind down, Barton will play six games on three dates this week beginning with a Tuesday road trip to Pratt, their final home game coming the next day hosting Colby, and concluding Saturday at Butler. First pitch slated for 2:00 p.m. for each of the dates’ doubleheaders.
  • Barton Softball snaps skid with victory at Seward County; Nine run game two lead suspended due to weather

    The Barton Community College softball team need a win in the worst way in trying to snap an uncharacteristic five game slide and through six innings Thursday in Liberal, the Cougars and Seward County Community College were in a scoreless deadlock. Having been held to just three hits through the first six, the Cougars doubled up their production in the first three at-bats leading to a three run inning before holding off the Saints’ home half rally in getting back to the win column with the 3-2 victory.
  • Generous Cougars drop doubleheader to Dodge City

    The Barton Community College softball team was very generous Monday afternoon at Cougar Field helping the Conquistadors of Dodge City Community College in capturing the conference sweep. The Cougars committed nine official errors and stranded twenty-one runners in the twinbill as Dodge City ended the first game in five innings hammering fifteen hits in an 11-1 win before scoring four unearned seventh inning runs for a come-from-behind 7-5 victory. The losses sent Barton to its fifth straight, dropping to 7-7 in conference play and 22-11 overall Dodge City Community College leapfrogs the Cougars in the standings to third place at 11-7 while winning their seventh straight game improving to 23-11 on the year. Barton will hit the road for its next three playing dates, the first coming on Thursday as the Cougars head to Liberal for a 2:00 p.m. doubleheader against Seward County Community College.
  • Power surge dooms Cougars in loss to top ranked Butler

    The Barton Community College softball team was back on the field after a thirteen day layoff due to weather, dropping a conference doubleheader Friday afternoon at Cougar Field to top ranked Butler Community College 10-0 and 11-1. Having dealt the Grizzlies their last loss a year ago at Cougar Field, the Cougars found themselves trailing 3-0 in each of their first at-bats as Butler quickly jumped out ahead in part to consecutive home runs in the opener and a two-out round tripper in the night cap. On the day the Grizzlies pounded out twenty-five hits with seven exceeding the fence while getting dominant pitching combining for twenty-three strikeouts in securing the sweep. The losses drop Barton to 7-5 in the Jayhawk and 22-9 on the season while Butler secured their 72nd straight win since last March 3rd split with the Cougars to improve to 34-0 overall and atop the conference standings at 10-0. Barton’s next action is Monday in hosting Dodge City Community College for a 2:00 p.m. doubleheader.
  • Barton softball offering position clinic this Saturday

    The Barton Community College softball team is offering a skills clinic this Saturday, April 8, from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. at Cougar Field on the college campus. Designed to develop skill proficiency for position players ages 8-12, the clinic will introduce a solid foundation of the fundamental skills of the game through the use drills and lots of fun while interacting with the Barton softball team. Cost is just $30 for this two hour clinic with early registration recommended but walk-ups are welcome. In case of inclement weather, the clinic will be relocated to the indoor facility located east of Cougar Field.     The Barton Community College softball team split its conference doubleheader at Colby Community College on Saturday, winning the first game 14-4 in five innings before dropping the nightcap 8-4. The series split leaves Barton at 7-3 in the Jayhawk and 22-7 on the season while Colby moves to 4-4 in conference play and 17-11 overall. The Cougars’ next action will come on Wednesday as No. 1 ranked Butler Community College comes to Cougar Field for a 2:00 p.m. doubleheader.
  • Barton softball goes deep for split with Seward County

    The Barton Community College softball team belted four home runs in the back end of Wednesday’s doubleheader against Seward County Community College, bouncing back from an 8-3 defeat before holding on for an 8-5 win to salvage the conference twin bill at Cougar Field. Seward County took the first game behind a five-run third inning but the Cougars chased the starting pitcher in game two getting four first inning runs before tacking on a run in four of the next five frames while holding off a seventh inning Saints rally. The series split leaves Barton at 6-2 in the Jayhawk and 21-6 while Seward County moves to 4-2 in conference play and 29-12 overall. The Cougars will next head to Colby Community College on Saturday for a 2:00 p.m. doubleheader.
  • Reynolds belts two long balls in Barton Softball sweep at Dodge City

    The Barton Community College softball team got out to early leads Saturday in Dodge City picking up a conference doubleheader sweep at Dodge City Community College. Getting two home runs on the day by freshman Payton Reynolds, the Cougars scored early and held on 5-2 for the first win then put four on the board to begin the second while adding nine more in the middle innings to earn Reynolds the win in the circle with the 13-3 game shortened five inning victory. Barton improves to 5-1 in Jayhawk Conference play and 20-5 on the season while dropping Dodge City to 4-4 and 14-8 on the year. Next up for the Cougars will be a Wednesday 2:00 p.m. doubleheader against Seward County Community College (3-1, 28-11) at Cougar Field.

    The Barton Community College softball team did what it needed to do Thursday at Cougar Field, coming out on top 4-2 and 5-3 over the junior varsity squad of Kansas Wesleyan University. The victories improve the Cougars to 18-5 on the season while dropping the Coyotes to 5-5. Barton will have a long stretch before its next game, returning to conference play on Saturday, March 18, in a 2:00 p.m. doubleheader at Dodge City Community College.

    The Barton Community College softball team split a doubleheader Tuesday in Arkansas City, dropping the first game in five innings 12-4 to Division II No. 10 ranked Cowley College before taking the nightcap over the Tigers 7-4. The non-conference results moves Barton’s record to 16-5 on the season while Cowley stands at 11-10. The Cougars will stay in non-conference play with a Thursday doubleheader against the junior varsity squad of Kansas Wesleyan University. First pitch slated for 2:00 p.m. at Cougar Field.

    The Barton Community College softball team bounced back from a disappointing loss to salvage Wednesday’s conference opening doubleheader versus Pratt Community College. The Beavers took game one 7-4 and had a third inning lead before the Barton bats heated up with two four-run innings to dispatch the Beaver in six innings 13-5. The split leaves the Cougars at 12-4 on the season while Pratt improves to 2-22 following a rugged pre-conference schedule. Barton will stay in conference play for their next contest hosting Garden City Community College in a 2:00 p.m. doubleheader at Cougar Field.

    The Barton Community College softball team took care of the junior varsity squad of Sterling College in minimum innings Thursday at Cougar Field as the Cougars won 12-0 and 14-2. The victories improve the Cougars to 12-3 on the season while dropping the Warriors to 1-3. Barton will have the next six days in preparation of its conference opener on Wednesday, March 1, in 2:00 p.m. doubleheader action at Cougar Field against Pratt Community College.

    The Barton Community College softball team racked up a pair of five inning victories Wednesday in Lindsborg sweeping the junior varsity squad from Bethany College. The Cougars scored in four of the five innings including an eight run third in capturing the opener 15-0 before a ten run third inning highlighted the nightcap’s 17-1 win. The victories improved the Cougars to 10-3 on the season headed into a week away from competition before hosting the Sterling College junior varsity squad in a 2:00 p.m. doubleheader Thursday, February 23, at Cougar Field.
  • Barton Softball wins two in Texas; Summers' two grand slams power victory over Luna

    After a 6-0 start to the season, the young Barton Community College softball team headed to Midland, Texas, for the weekend winning two of their five games of the Midland Classic. The Cougars began Friday with a 5-2 loss to No. 17 ranked Howard College before dropping a 12-1 five inning game to host Midland College, ending the day with a 9-1 five frame dispatching of Luna Community College getting two grand slams from sophomore Payton Summers to power the victory. Barton carried the momentum into Saturday morning earning a 5-2 win over Clarendon College before ending the trip with a six inning 13-3 loss to Odessa. The 8-3 Cougars will have one doubleheader this week, traveling to Bethany College on Wednesday for another matchup with the junior varsity squad Barton swept last Tuesday at Cougar Field.

    The Barton Community College softball team made short work of the junior varsity squad from Bethany College in a pair of five inning victories Tuesday. The Cougars scored in the first three innings for a 10-2 first game win before batting around twice in the first three innings of the second game piling up a 20-3 victory to sweep the home opener at Cougar Field. Six Cougars finished the day with multi hits including eleven extra base hits and three home runs in ten innings of action. Beginning the season unblemished in its six tune-up games, Barton will get a much tougher this test this weekend as the Cougars head to Midland, Texas, for games Friday and Saturday in the Midland Tournament.

    The Barton Community College softball team continued their opening weekend in Oklahoma on Sunday picking up a doubleheader sweep of the junior varsity squad of Bacone College in Muskogee. The Cougars scored in all but one inning of the first game exploding for nine seventh inning runs to win 17-2 but had to rally twice in the second game highlighted by a four run fifth inning for an 11-5 victory to begin the season 4-0. Barton will have its first pair of home games this coming Tuesday as Bethany College’s junior varsity squad comes to Cougar Field for a 2:00 p.m. doubleheader.

    The Barton Community College softball team opened up their 2017 season Saturday in Bartlesville, Oklahoma, with a sweep of the junior varsity squad of Oklahoma Wesleyan University. Behind a five run third inning, the Cougars went on to win 11-3 in six innings but in game two needed an eight run seventh inning to capture the back end of the doubleheader 15-8. The Cougars will stay in Oklahoma for another pair of games on Sunday taking on Bacone College in a 1:00 p.m. first pitch in Muskogee. Barton will have its first pair of home games this coming Tuesday as Bethany College’s junior varsity squad comes to Cougar Field for a 2:00 p.m. doubleheader.
