Barton Softball's Reynolds named to NFCA All-West Region team

Payton Reynolds of the Barton Community College softball team was recently named to the National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) West All-Region second team recognizing Division I players of the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA).

Reynolds was a versatile player for the Cougars earning the second team selection as a utility player for time in both the center circle and the outfield.  Earning honorable mention All-KJCCC honors, the freshman from Topeka's Shawnee Heights High School threw nearly half of the innings for the Cougars with 121.1 frames, striking out 69 with an ERA of 4.27 in going 15-12 on the year while limiting opponent's batting average to just .282.  A key contributor in the upper third of the lineup, Reynolds batted above the team average finishing at .372 with a team second best .481 on-base percentage including eleven doubles and tied for the team lead with seven hit-by-pitches.

103 student-athletes representing 47 programs received 2017 NFCA NJCAA DI All-Region accolades.  These awards honor softball student-athletes from the Association's three regions with first- and second-team recognitions. NFCA member coaches from each region voted on the teams, and all honorees are now eligible for the 2017 NFCA NJCAA Division I All-American squads.

The NFCA is the professional growth organization for fastpitch softball coaches consisting of more than 4,300 members from all competitive levels of play.  For more information regarding the NFCA, visit www.nfca.org.
