Reynolds belts two long balls in Barton Softball sweep at Dodge City

The Barton Community College softball team got out to early leads Saturday in Dodge City picking up a conference doubleheader sweep at Dodge City Community College.  Getting two home runs on the day by freshman Payton Reynolds, the Cougars scored early and held on 5-2 for the first win then put four on the board to begin the second while adding nine more in the middle innings to earn Reynolds the win in the circle with the 13-3 game shortened five inning victory.  Barton improves to 5-1 in Jayhawk Conference play and 20-5 on the season while dropping Dodge City to 4-4 and 14-8 on the year.  Next up for the Cougars will be a Wednesday 2:00 p.m. doubleheader against Seward County Community College (3-1, 28-11) at Cougar Field.

Leading the charge in the opener was the 3-for-4 performance from Payton Reynolds.  Leading off the second with a double, Reynolds would score two outs late on Kaci Isaacson first of two doubles in the game.  Lydia Konrade would make it a two run spread with a single to center one batter later.

Dodge City would the cut the margin in half in the bottom of the fourth stringing together two singles before a bunt would push a run across the plate.

Following a scoreless fifth inning, Barton would get the run back as Braxton Morby led off the sixth with a double followed one out late by Isaacson's second run producing double of game.

The Cougars grabbed insurance runs in the seventh with Andreana Reynolds keeping the inning alive with a single followed by P. Reynolds' third home run of the season giving Barton a 5-1 lead.

Dodge City tried to make things interesting getting a leadoff single but could only muster a two-out RBI double as Barton took the opener 5-2.

Amanda Evans picked up the complete game victory improving to 5-1 on the season allowing just five hits and walking just one.  Kim Herron took the loss dropping to 9-3.

Two Dodge City errors opened up game two, with Maddison Schofield and Kat Frakes both reach on error with Schofield coming around to score.  Following a Jayden Gonzales walk, P. Reynolds launched her second big fly of the day and fourth of the season staking Barton out to the early four run lead.

Barton would again use the long ball in the third inning as Mickenzie Toler's fourth home run of the season trotted home P. Reynolds and Morby single for a 7-0 Barton lead.

The Conquistadors cut into the lead by two in home half of the fourth as a leadoff walk would score on a two-out single and ensuing double.

Barton put any ideas of a Conq comeback to bed in the following inning, getting help by an error putting A. Reynolds, followed by a Gonzales single and P. Reynolds to load the bases.  Morby drove in two with a double, Isaacson drove in the next with a groundout, and Konrade drove in another with her second single of the game.  Dodge City again helped with another error allowing Schofield to reach and Konrade to score, with Frakes capping the six run inning with a RBI liner to center.

A double and error by the Cougars helped set up Dodge City's final run, coming on a groundout with Barton earning the fifth inning run rule 13-3.

P. Reynolds improved to 10-4 on her freshman campaign, scattering five hits with four strikeouts.  Jordyn McDaniel took the loss dropping to 5-5.
