Big third innings power Barton Softball to sweep at Bethany

The Barton Community College softball team racked up a pair of five inning victories Wednesday in Lindsborg sweeping the junior varsity squad from Bethany College.  The Cougars scored in four of the five innings including an eight run third in capturing the opener 15-0 before a ten run third inning highlighted the nightcap's 17-1 win.  The victories improved the Cougars to 10-3 on the season headed into a week away from competition before hosting the Sterling College junior varsity squad in a 2:00 p.m. doubleheader Thursday, February 23, at Cougar Field.

Driving in eight runs in a single game this past weekend in Texas, Payton Summers led the Cougars in the sweep driving in six in eight at-bats including five in game two. Summers connected on the first of two doubles in the game with a two-out two RBI drive to left in Barton's four run first and another two RBI double in the ten run third. 

In addition to Summers' .625 doubleheader, five other Cougars batted over .500 on the day being led by leadoff Maddison Schofield's table setting 6-of-9 performance.  Kaci Isaacson was close behind in runs batted in production driving home five in game one, getting two on a third inning double with three coming on her second home run of the season in the fifth.

Peyton Reynolds earned the game one victory improving to 5-1 on the season scattering three hits in four innings of work while batting .571 on the day driving in three runs.  Kat Frakes improved to 2-0 getting the back end doubleheader win going three innings with Amanda Evans working her second inning of not allowing a run while Braylin Bretz pitching the final inning not allowing a hit.
