The Barton Community College softball team took care of the junior varsity squad of Sterling College in minimum innings Thursday at Cougar Field as the Cougars won 12-0 and 14-2.  The victories improve the Cougars to 12-3 on the season while dropping the Warriors to 1-3.  Barton will have the next six days in preparation of its conference opener on Wednesday, March 1, in 2:00 p.m. doubleheader action at Cougar Field against Pratt Community College. 

Combining for twenty-five hits in the twinbill and scoring in six of their eight innings at bat, the Cougars were led by Topeka freshmen Kat Frakes and Mickenzie Toler as each pounded out five hits with ten runs batted in.  

Frakes' first inning RBI double got the Cougars going in game one with her two out single in the fourth capping the Cougars' seven run fourth inning.  Frakes continued the hot bat out of the two hole driving in the first of four runs in the game with a double in the four run first, a two RBI single in the second, and connecting for her second double of the game and third of the series with an RBI shot past the centerfielder.  Frakes' eight at-bats produced six runs in lighting up the scoreboard while scoring five runs, second to leadoff batter Maddison Schofield's team leading five runs touching the plate.

Driving home one run the big fourth inning of game one for her lone hit, Toler was perfect at the plate in game two going 4-of-4 from the plate driving in three runs in the first two innings including two RBIs in the eight run second inning.

Payton Summers also had a good series batting .571 driving in three teammates on her four hits as did Kaci Isaacson utilizing two hits to push across three more runs.

Having only been to the plate five times so far in the season, Braxton Morby went 1-for-2 concluding Barton's fourteen runs with a two-out single up the middle driving in two for the Colorado freshman's first collegiate RBIs. 

Barton batted .429 in the series while the pitching staff limited the Sterling bats to three hits in each of the games.  Payton Reynolds picked up the game one victory striking out five while allowing just one hit in her four innings of work.  Braylin Bretz pitched the fifth giving up consecutive one out singles without damage then entered the fifth of game two keeping the Warriors hitless in her one inning duty.

Frakes opened up game two in the center circle picking up her third win of the year but ran into trouble in third giving way to Amanda Evans who pitched out of a bases loaded jam with two strikeouts before pitching another no-hit inning in the fourth.
