Barton Softball takes nightcap to salvage conference opening split with Pratt

The Barton Community College softball team bounced back from a disappointing loss to salvage Wednesday's conference opening doubleheader versus Pratt Community College.  The Beavers took game one 7-4 and had a third inning lead before the Barton bats heated up with two four-run innings to dispatch the Beaver in six innings 13-5.  The split leaves the Cougars at 12-4 on the season while Pratt improves to 2-22 following a rugged pre-conference schedule.  Barton will stay in conference play for their next contest hosting Garden City Community College in a 2:00 p.m. doubleheader at Cougar Field.

Leadoff batter Maddison Schofield set the table for the game two victory going 5-for-5 driving in five runs with two doubles and the first home run of the sophomore's season coming in Barton's go-ahead four run fourth inning.  Kaci Isaacson and Andreana Reynolds each collected four hits in the two games with Isaacson driving in two of her three runs in the final sixth inning while Reynolds stroked two doubles and her team leading third triple of the season.  Jayden Gonzales connected on two long balls in the twinbill with a two-run blast in game one's fifth inning before knocking her fourth of the year over the fence one batter after Schofield's fourth inning dinger in the nightcap's fourth inning.

Payton Reynolds took the loss in game one dropping to 7-3 on the year while Great Bend's Braylin Bretz picked up her first collegiate victory pitching the final 3.1 innings scattering three hits and striking out two.
