  • Cougar softball lands 2 on All-West 1st team; Gonzales freshman of the Year

    The Barton County Community College softball team had 5 players receive recognition for their play this season by being named to the All-Jayhawk West softball team. Two Cougars were named 1st team, 2 more 2nd team, and 1 honorable mention. Pitcher Rosamar Gonzales was tabbed as the Freshman of the Year in the West. Joining Gonzales on the 1st team for Barton was 2nd baseman Natosha Stewart. Ashlee Early and Heather Watson earned 2nd team honors while Vanessa Roy was named honorable mention.
  • Cougars end season with losses in Region VI tournament

    The Barton County Community College softball team went 1-2 at the Region VI double elimination tournament this past weekend in Liberal, ending its season with a 30-36 record. The Cougars lost the 1st game of the tournament in a heart-breaking fashion before staying alive with a win in the loser’s bracket. Barton 2nd chance was short-lived, however, as the Cougars lost the final game of the day Saturday to be eliminated from competition.
  • Cougars drop West games to Dodge; need 1 win for 3rd seed in Region VI

    The Barton County Community College softball team dropped its Jayhawk West games of the season Thursday at Cougar Fields and is now looking to the Region VI tournament in the post season. Barton fell 1-0 and 13-4 to Dodge and fell to 27-34 overall this year and end the West season at 6-10. That will get the Cougars a tie for 4th or 5th in the West. Barton still has two very important regular season games remaining in a trip to Cloud that will determine whether the Cougars are the No. 3 or No. 4 seed in the upcoming Region VI tournament.
  • Offense stagnet for Cougars in doubleheader losses to Garden City

    The Barton County Community College softball team had its offense in high gear for two games but it didn’t carry over to Wednesday’s doubleheader against Garden City. Barton lost 3-1 and 2-1 to Garden at Cougar Fields to fall to 21-27 for the season. The losses also put the Cougars at 3-5 in Jayhawk West play and 4-6 in Region VI action. The Cougars are at home again today to battle Hutchinson.
  • Barton hands Seward 1st region loss in twinbill split

    The Barton County Community College softball team discovered its offense Saturday at Cougar Fields in a split with Region VI front runner Seward County. Barton won the opener 8-2 then lost 15-6 in the nightcap. The loss was the 1st in region play for Seward, which leads the Region with a 7-1 record. Barton is now 4-4 in Region VI play and 21-25 overall. The 14 runs scored in the doubleheader is the most in a twinbill this season for the Cougars.
  • Cougars split Region, West games with Cloud

    The Barton County Community College softball team split a pair of contests Tuesday afternoon at Cougars Fields with Cloud County. The Cougars won the opener by a 4-0 count then lost in the nightcap, 3-1. The contests were both Jayhawk West and Region VI contests, putting Barton at 3-3 in West action and 3-1 in Region VI play. Barton is 20-22 overall after a 9-19 start to the season. The Cougars were scheduled to play at Garden City Wednesday, but weather has pushed that contest back to April 21. That, barring more rescheduling, will be the regular season finale. Cloud is now 9-18 overall, 3-7 in the West, and 2-6 in Region VI.
  • Cougars offense struggles in losses at Garden City

    The Barton County Community College softball team found the going not to its liking at Garden City Thursday, dropping a pair of Region VI contests to the Broncbusters, losing 3-2 and 6-1. The losses dropped the Cougars to 20-22 overal and 3-3 in Region VI action. The game was originally slated for Wednesday but was moved back due to the weather. Barton was schedule to play Dodge City in Great Bend Thursday but it was too wet in Great Bend. Barton and Garden got together and scheduled the twinbill on short notice.
  • Barton sweeps Colby, Pratt; runs winning streak to season-high 8 games

    The Barton County Community College softball team has seen season like this in the recent past. Get past that tough non-conference slate with teams the South and start that climb not only back .500 but towards the top of the conference race. The Cougars showed signs they are indeed ready to break out of that early-season funk once again, sweeping Colby in Jayhawk West games Tuesday at Cougar Fields then traveling to Pratt and doing likewise Wednesday. Those 4 wins for the Cougars ran their winning streak to a season-high 8 game. The wins moved Barton to 17-19 overall this season and 2-2 in the West with the wins over Pratt. As importantly, Barton is now 2-0 in the Region VI standings with the wins over Colby, where the Cougars are fighting with Colby, Seward, Garden, and Cloud. The rest of the Jayhawk Conference is playing Division II this season.
  • Barton sweeps foes at Colby Tournament

    The Barton County Community College softball team had its best weekend of the season as far as wins are concerned, sweeping the Colby Tournament with a 4-0 mark. Barton received a forfeit win from McCook and won all 3 games on the field. Barton defeated Jayhawk West rival Dodge City, Jayhawk East foe Independence and Iowa Western to complete the perfect weekend. Barton is now 13-19 overall this season.
