Cougars offense struggles in losses at Garden City
The Barton County Community College softball team found the going not to its liking at Garden City Thursday, dropping a pair of Region VI contests to the Broncbusters, losing 3-2 and 6-1. The losses dropped the Cougars to 20-22 overal and 3-3 in Region VI action. The game was originally slated for Wednesday but was moved back due to the weather. Barton was schedule to play Dodge City in Great Bend Thursday but it was too wet in Great Bend. Barton and Garden got together and scheduled the twinbill on short notice.



Highlights
Barton trailed most of the opening contest after falling behind 2-0 in the 3rd inning but together a 2-run 6th inning to even the score at 2-all. Garden went up 2-0 on a pair of unearned runs in the 3rd. But Barton cut it to 2-1 in the 6th when Kelly Delgado doubled in Yanir Mendoza with two outs. Mendoza started the rally with a 2-out double. Heather Watson made it 3 straight doubles to score Teal Meyer, who was running for Delgado, to make it 2-all.

But Garden scored a single run in the bottom of the 7th thanks to another Cougar miscue. Krista Casey took the loss, allowing just a pair of hits in 2 1/3 innings and the one unearned run.

Barton scored in the top of the 1st in the nightcap to grab a 1-0 lead when Mendoza scored an unearned run on a Garden City error. But that would be the only run of the game for Barton as Garden City scored in 5 of its 6 innings.
