Cougar softball lands 2 on All-West 1st team; Gonzales freshman of the Year
The Barton County Community College softball team had 5 players receive recognition for their play this season by being named to the All-Jayhawk West softball team. Two Cougars were named 1st team, 2 more 2nd team, and 1 honorable mention. Pitcher Rosamar Gonzales was tabbed as the Freshman of the Year in the West. Joining Gonzales on the 1st team for Barton was 2nd baseman Natosha Stewart. Ashlee Early and Heather Watson earned 2nd team honors while Vanessa Roy was named honorable mention.



Rosamar Gonzales
Gonzales was named 1 of two 1st team pitchers as well as being named the top freshman in the West. Gonzales was 14-12 this season but had an impressive 1.47 ERA in her 34 appearances. She started 29 games, completing 18 of them. Gonzales tossed 8 shutouts during the season and struck out 161 batters in 177 innings. She walked just 42 during the year. Opponents hit just .213 against her this season.

Natosha Stewart
Stewart had a great year at the plate for the Cougars – the lone Cougar to hit better than .300 during the season. Stewart was well over the .300 mark at .359 – just 1 of several categories the freshman led the Cougars in. Stewart led the Cougars in hits (70), runs (34), total bases (85), slugging percentage (436), on base percentage (393), as well as base stealing (10-of-12).

Ashlee Early 
Early was named to the 2nd team at 3rd base, where she has started for two years at Barton County. This season Early hit .238 with 15 RBI and held a 949 fielding percentage from her 3rd base spot. Early also led the team in sacrifice hits with 16 and started in 64 of the Cougars' 66 games.

Heather Watson
Watson was the 2nd leading hitter for the Cougars this past season, hitting .270. She was named as 2nd team All-West as a utility player. Watson had 9 doubles and drove in 16 runs while playing in 56 games for Barton.

Vanessa Roy
Roy earned honorable mention honors in the outfield for the Cougars. The sophomore hit .254 with 14 RBI and 22 runs scored. The 22 runs was 3rd best for the Cougars this season as were her 7 stolen bases. Roy had 5 doubles and a home run.
