Cougars drop West games to Dodge; need 1 win for 3rd seed in Region VI
The Barton County Community College softball team dropped its Jayhawk West games of the season Thursday at Cougar Fields and is now looking to the Region VI tournament in the post season. Barton fell 1-0 and 13-4 to Dodge and fell to 27-34 overall this year and end the West season at 6-10. That will get the Cougars a tie for 4th or 5th in the West. Barton still has two very important regular season games remaining in a trip to Cloud that will determine whether the Cougars are the No. 3 or No. 4 seed in the upcoming Region VI tournament.

Highlights
Barton's Rosmar Gonzalez and Dodge's Kristin Earley hooked up in a pitcher's duel in the opener with Earley eventually getting the best of it in a 1-0 win. Barton collected 7 hits off Earley but could not plate a run in the game, leaving 7 runners on base. Barton left 5 runners on base in the 1st 2 innings – including the bases loaded in the 2nd inning. Barton would get only two more base runners the remaining 5 innings as the Conquistadors picked up the win. Gonzalez allowed just 5 hits and one unearned run to be saddled with hard-luck loss.

In the 2nd game, Dodge jumped to a 4-0 lead in the 1st inning and pushed it to 8-2 in the 4th as they cruised to the win in the nightcap. The Cougars gave up 13 hits and committed 6 errors in the loss. Natosha Stewart, Kelly Delgado and Heather Watson each had 2 hits for Barton.

Now the Cougars need 1 win Tuesday at Cloud County to lock down the No.3 seed and bye in the opening round of the 5-team double elimination Region VI tournament. Seward has locked up the top seed and Garden the No. 2 seed. Barton, currently 6-8 in the Region is 3rd and Cloud 5-9 in 4th. Cloud could pass Barton with a sweep. Barton will remain 3rd with a split or sweep of its own. Colby holds the final spot.
