  • Sherrod becomes seventh Barton men's soccer player committed to the next level

    Matt Sherrod added his name to the list of Barton Community College men’s soccer players committing to play next season at the four year level. A midfielder from Maize, Kansas, Sherrod will finish his two remaining years of eligibility at the NAIA level playing for Friends University in Wichita.
  • Six Barton men’s soccer players commit to next level

    Six players from the Barton Community College men’s soccer team have committed to play next season at the four year level. Jiro Barriga Toyama heads to the sunshine state at NCAA Division I Florida Gulf Coast University while All-American Renan Sousa and redshirt Fred Dorvil head to the NAIA level at Faulkner University in Montgomery, Alabama. Three players are headed to the NCAA Division II level with Jamie Cox also headed to the state of Alabama to play for The University of West Alabama while Richard Lara and Emmanuel Poblano will join the squad at Southwest Baptist University in Bolivar, Missouri.

  • Barton Soccer’s Renan Sousa named 2nd Team NJCAA All-American; Fourteenth Cougar in Barton history

    Landing in the top ten on almost every offensive single season and career chart in the storied history of Cougar soccer, Barton Community College’s Renan Sousa joins a distinguished NJCAA Division I All-American list being named to the nation’s 2nd Team. The sophomore from Sao Paulo, Brazil, becomes the fourteenth Cougar to earn All-American status. Kevin Ellis and Craig Ratanamorn earned All-American status twice, bringing Barton’s total to sixteen awards in fifteen years of competition.
  • Sousa leads eight Barton Men’s Soccer players receiving post-season honors

    The Barton Community College men’s soccer team had eight players recently selected to the 2015 Kansas Jayhawk Community College Conference All-Conference team with four being named to the All-Region VI team. The selections featured four landing on the first team leading the Cougars to a 14-2-1 record on the season while receiving votes in NJCAA Division I poll and ending the season No. 17 in the NSCAA poll.

    The Barton Community College men’s soccer team had its 2015 season come to an end Thursday at the Cougar Soccer Complex in the first round of the Region VI playoffs coming up on the short end of a 4-2 score in shootout kicks to Cowley College. The Region’s second seeded and No. 17 ranked Cougars end the season at 14-2-1 while Cowley advances to the semifinal round improving to 5-9-2.
  • Comeback Cougars score late goals winning 3-2 at KCK

    The Barton Community College men’s soccer team exploded for three goals in nine minutes Monday for a come-from-behind 3-2 victory at Kansas City Kansas Community College. The Cougars were kept off the scoreboard for the first seventy-four minutes trailing by one but fast forward nine minutes and Barton flipped the one goal advantage leaving the remaining seven minutes to the defense for their third comeback victory of season. Closing out the regular season winning four straight including three in conference play, the Cougars finish 8-2 in conference play and 13-2 overall while dropping KCK to 4-5-1 and 8-7-1 on the year. Barton’s victory aided by Cloud County finishing tied with Johnson County in their respective regular season finale, moves the Cougars into second place in the Jayhawk and more importantly the No. 2 seed which ensures consecutive home matches in the upcoming Region VI playoffs. The Cougars will play first round action at 3:00 p.m. Thursday against Cowley College before a hopeful semifinal match on Sunday.
  • Defense holds firm for second straight shutout, Cougar soccer breaks through for late goals in victory

    Saturday at the Cougar Soccer Complex it was a matter of time until the offense rattled the nets. Until then, the defense recorded its second straight clean sheet and sixth of the season helping to lift the Barton Community College men’s soccer team to a 2-0 victory over Coffeyville Community College. The win keeps the Cougars tied for second place in the conference improving to 7-2 and 13-2 on the season while the Ravens end their season at 1-8-1 in Jayhawk play and 5-11-1 overall. Receiving votes in the national poll and having locked up a first round home playoff game, Barton travels to Kansas City Kansas Community College on Monday, October 26, for a 6:00 p.m. kick to wrap up the regular season.
  • Barton men’s soccer gets defensive in 2-0 win over MCC-Maple Woods

    With the defense keeping a clean slate for the fifth time this season, the offensive attack broke through with two late goals as the Barton Community College men’s soccer team defeated MCC-Maple Woods 2-0 Tuesday afternoon at the Cougar Soccer Complex. The non-conference victory improves the nationally receiving votes Cougars to 12-2 on the season while the Monarchs slipping to 4-8 on the year. Coming down to the final two games of the season, the third place 6-2 Cougars return to conference action Saturday hosting Coffeyville Community College (0-7-1, 4-10-1) in a 4:00 p.m. kick before wrapping up the regular season Monday, October 26, at Kansas City Kansas Community College.

    Two days after dropping a short-handed one goal defeat, the No. 18 ranked Barton Community College men’s soccer team scored three first half goals to defeat Allen County Community College 3-2 Saturday afternoon at the Cougar Soccer Complex. The victory kept Barton’s slim hopes of a shared Jayhawk title at 6-2 and 11-2 on the season while Allen County drops to 2-6 and 5-11 overall. The Cougars have three games remaining in the season with the first of two home contests coming Tuesday at 4:00 p.m. in a non-conference contest versus MCC-Maple Woods.

    Less than a week from knocking the No. 17 ranked team from the national polls, the newly inserted No. 18 ranked Barton Community College men’s soccer team found life in the polls a tough one as the shorthanded Cougars fell 1-0 Thursday afternoon at Cloud County Community College. The loss diminishes hope for a share of the Jayhawk title with three conference games remaining as Barton drops into third place at 5-2 and 10-2 on the season while Cloud County takes the points lead in the race improving to 7-2 and 9-2 overall. The Cougars will begin a three game homestand on Saturday taking on Allen County Community College in a 4:00 p.m. kick.
  • Barton men’s soccer knocks off No. 17 Garden City

    The Barton Community College men’s soccer team took another huge step Saturday in keeping within the Jayhawk race knocking off No. 17 ranked Garden City Community College on their home turf 4-2. Tied at two after the first forty-five minutes, Barton dominated second half action scoring two goals to win their fourth straight game. Getting some looks in the most recent NJCAA Top-20 poll, the victory improves Barton to 5-1 and 10-1 on the season while the Broncbusters fall two games off the conference title race dropping to 5-2 and 9-2-1 on the season. The Cougars will have another tough pivotal conference game coming up on Thursday as the Barton travels to Concordia, Kansas, taking on the Thunderbirds of Cloud County Community College (5-2, 7-2) in a 4:00 p.m. kick.

  • Cougars get defensive recording fourth shutout in 1-0 victory over Neosho

    For the fourth time in ten games, the Barton Community College men’s soccer team shutout an opponent as the Cougars came away with a 1-0 victory Saturday over Neosho County Community College at the Cougar Soccer Complex. Limiting the Panthers to only five shots in the contest, an early second half goal aided by the stout Cougar defensive line was all Barton would need for the victory. Winners of three straight, the Cougars keep pace in the Jayhawk at 4-1 and 9-1 on the season while Neosho County drops to 0-4 and 3-8-1 on the season. Facing Barton in the upcoming weeks are pivotal conference road trips to Garden City Community College (5-1) and Cloud County Community College (5-2) with the next home date not until October 17. The Cougars will face the Broncbusters in a 1:00 p.m. kick this Saturday before traveling to Concordia for a Thursday, October 15, battle.

    The Barton Community College men’s soccer team took care of business Saturday night in Dodge City scoring three second half goals for a 4-1 victory over the Conquistadors of Dodge City Community College. The Cougars increased their one goal halftime edge to two then answered the Conquistadors lone goal with two more net shakers securing the win. The victory marked the thirteenth straight game the Cougars are unbeaten versus the Conquistadors and increased its unblemished unbeaten historical streak in Dodge City to ten. Barton will have a week off before its next competition as the Cougars host Neosho County Community College on Saturday, October 3, in a 4:00 p.m. kick at the Cougar Soccer Complex.
  • Cougar soccer rallies for 2-1 victory at Johnson County

    The Barton Community College men’s soccer team bounced back from its first loss of the season with a come-from-behind 2-1 win Tuesday at Johnson County Community College. The Cougars trailed 1-0 at halftime but rallied to tie it up just seven minutes into the second frame and getting the game winner at the sixteen minute mark. The victory improves Barton to 3-1 in conference play and 8-1 overall while Johnson County drops to 0-2 in the Jayhawk and 4-3-1 on the season. The Cougars next contest will come Saturday in Dodge City as the Barton takes on Dodge City Community College for a 7:00 p.m. kick-off.

    The Barton Community College men’s soccer team’s contest slated for Friday has been cancelled due to a dwindling roster for the junior varsity squad of Bethany College. Barton’s next action will come on Tuesday at Johnson County Community College with the Lady Cougars kicking off at 2:00 p.m. followed by the men’s game at approximately 4:00 p.m.

  • Unbeaten no longer, Cougars take first loss in 2-1 defeat

    Two streaks were on the line Tuesday at the Cougar Soccer Complex for the Barton Community College men’s soccer team and unfortunately the Cougars were on the short end of both losing 2-1 to Pratt Community College. Unable to take advantage of a 25 mph first half wind, the Cougars saw the Beavers utilize it for two second half goals in the first fourteen minutes defeating the Cougars for the third straight year, as well as, knocking Barton from the ranks of the unbeaten. The loss drops the Cougars to 1-1 in conference play and 6-1 overall while Pratt remains unbeaten in conference play at 3-0 and 4-1 on the season. Barton will have a couple days rest before hosting the junior varsity squad from Bethany College on Friday in a 3:00 p.m. kick.

    No longer will the Barton Community College men’s soccer team fly under the KJCCC radar as the Cougars made an early season statement Saturday in Arkansas City, Kansas, scoring five unanswered goals in a 5-1 win at Cowley College. The Cougars remain spotless on the season at 6-0 with their conference opener while dropping Cowley to 1-1 in conference play and 2-3 overall. Next up for Barton will be Pratt Community College, a recent thorn in the side of the Cougars with two straight losses to the Beavers. Kick-off for Tuesday’s match-up is 4:00 p.m. at the Cougar Soccer/Track Complex.

    Surrendering consecutive second half goals, the Barton Community College men’s soccer team responded within the next minute to break a 3-all tie enroute to a 7-3 victory Wednesday at the Cougar Soccer Complex over Northern Oklahoma College-Tonkawa. Barton tacked on three more goals in a matter of ten minutes securing the win improving to 5-0 on the season while dropping the Mavericks to 3-3. The Cougars travel to Arkansas City on Saturday for an early season big matchup against Cowley College beginning at 3:00 p.m.

    One day after two notable hat trick performances, another historic hat trick performance led the Barton Community College men’s soccer team to its second consecutive road victory as the Cougars manhandled the junior varsity squad of Southwestern Christian University JV 7-0 Sunday in Bethany, Oklahoma. The victory improves Barton to 4-0 after the tune-up portion of the schedule as the Cougars get set for a tough rest of the season. Beginning on Wednesday with the always tough Northern Oklahoma College-Tonkawa squad, the 3-2 Mavericks shut out the Cougars 3-0 last season in Tonkawa and are 3-1 this season against fellow Region VI foes. Kick-off is set for 4:00 p.m. at the Cougar Soccer/Track Complex following the Lady Cougars 2:00 p.m. contest versus the No. 11 ranked Lady Mavericks.

The 3-0 Cougars will conclude their Oklahoma swing on Sunday traveling to Bethany for a 2:00 p.m. kick against the Southwestern Christian University JV.

The Cougars took advantage of a favorable wind to lead 2-0 at the half then utilized fresh talent from their deep bench for three second half goals improving to 2-0 on the season. Barton will take to the road this weekend playing games in Oklahoma against junior varsity squads beginning with Oklahoma Wesleyan University at 7:00 p.m. Saturday night before taking on Southwestern Christian University in a 2:00 p.m. Sunday kick.

    The Barton Community College men’s soccer team opened up the 2015 season Sunday in Salina with a defensively impressive 3-0 shutout victory over the junior varsity squad of Kansas Wesleyan University. Sophomore Renan Sousa scored two first half goals getting the young Cougars off to a good start while a freshman combo connected on a late insurance goal to secure the victory. Barton will return to the pitch on Thursday as the Cougars host Sterling College JV in a 5:00 p.m. home opener kick-off.
