Cougars get defensive recording fourth shutout in 1-0 victory over Neosho

For the fourth time in ten games, the Barton Community College men's soccer team shutout an opponent as the Cougars came away with a 1-0 victory Saturday over Neosho County Community College at the Cougar Soccer Complex.  Limiting the Panthers to only five shots in the contest, an early second half goal aided by the stout Cougar defensive line was all Barton would need for the victory.  Winners of three straight, the Cougars keep pace in the Jayhawk at 4-1 and 9-1 on the season while Neosho County drops to 0-4 and 3-8-1 on the season.  Facing Barton in the upcoming weeks are pivotal conference road trips to Garden City Community College (5-1) and Cloud County Community College (5-2) with the next home date not until October 17.  The Cougars will face the Broncbusters in a 1:00 p.m. kick this Saturday before traveling to Concordia for a Thursday, October 15, battle.

Freshman Lucas Alves moved into a tie with Renan Sousa for the Cougars' leading goal scorer on the season giving Barton its lone goal just over seven minutes into second half play.   Receiving a long pass from Sousa, the Cougars' leading assist man, Alves juked a defender crossing into the box then sent a rocket to the lower 90 far post for the game winner.
