Barton was on the assault from the opening kick as Renan Sousa got the first of the Cougars fifteen shots launched just over two minutes into the contest. It was a sign of things to come as the Cougars kept launching and setting up opportunities but could not finish in part due to five great saves by Sterling's goalkeeper Taylor Ruth. The Cougars finally broke through off one of Sousa's six first half shots as Kota Endo hammered in Sousa's bang off the crossbar with 3:15 to play. One minute late Sousa set up Lucas Alves giving Barton a two goal lead into halftime.
The shift in wind did little to slow down the Cougars but it was Sterling who got found the net first courtesy of a penalty kick as Barton was whistled for a hand ball in the box. Jonathan Hernandez stepped in and fooled goalkeeper Juan Parente drawing Sterling to within one with 29:18 to play.
The close score reignited the Cougars as another barrage of shots forced second half keep Jamal Bechri with eight saves but three found the net as Barton's reserves began to show their skill. Uriel Heredia scored the first of three late goals finding the back of the net from an Emmanuel Poblano thru ball with 12:15 remaining. Less than three minutes later Jiro Barriga Toyama found Chris Docherty on the back side increasing the lead out to three. Just under two minutes to play Heredia added an assist to his day sending a pass thru the box to Kaike Guerra for the final dagger in the 5-1 victory.
