  • Four Barton Men’s Soccer players selected to All-Region Team

    Four players from the Barton Community College men’s soccer team were recently selected to the 2014 All-Region VI team released late last week. Landing in the top eleven of the twenty-two member team were two freshmen, forward Jiro Barriga Toyama and midfielder Renan Sousa, while midfielder Christopher Hogg and defenseman Dominic Swindler landed on the second team.
  • Barton Men’s Soccer lands five on All-Conference Team

    The Barton Community College men’s soccer team had six players recently selected to the 2014 Kansas Jayhawk Community College Conference All-Conference team. Headlining the group were first team selections sophomore defenseman Dominick Swindler and freshman forward Jiro Barriga Toyama, while freshman midfielder Renan Sousa landed on the second team. Sophomore defenseman Christopher Hogg, the lone returning starter from the 2013 squad, and freshman goalkeeper Austin Kail rounded out the selections earning honorable mention honors.
  • Barton Soccer season ends in Region VI Semifinals

    For the second straight season the Barton Community College men’s soccer season came to an end in the Region VI Semifinals as the Cougars dropped a hard fought 1-0 contest Sunday at Coffeyville Community College. Having lost 5-2 at the Red Ravens earlier this season, the Cougars gave Coffeyville all they could handle surrendering only an early second half goal but missed countless opportunities on the offensive end including two golden chances in the waning minutes. Barton ends the 2014 season at 7-6-3 while Coffeyville survives and advances in the playoffs with a 13-4-2 record.
  • Barton Soccer wins overtime thriller to advance to Region VI Semifinals

    Going on the road for a first round Region VI playoff game is something the Barton Community College men’s soccer program has never experienced. Thursday at Dodge City’s Memorial Stadium the sixth seeded Cougars looked comfortable enough away from friendly home turf to upset third seeded Dodge City Community College 3-2 in overtime. The victory improves Barton to 7-5-3 on the season while ending Dodge City’s season at 11-5-2. Next up for the Cougars will be a Sunday road trip to Coffeyville Community College in the Region VI Semifinals as the second seeded Ravens dispatched seventh seeded Johnson County Community College 4-2. The Ravens, 12-4-2 on the season, defeated Barton 5-2 back on September 17 in Coffeyville.
  • Cougar Soccer loss at Pratt costly in regular season finale

    The Barton Community College men’s soccer team failed to hold the lead Thursday in Pratt giving up two second half goals in losing 2-1 to Pratt Community College to wind up the regular season. The loss dropped Barton from the third seed for the upcoming Region VI playoffs all the way down to the sixth seed and sends the Cougars to a first round matchup away from home turf for the first time in history. Barton ends the regular season 4-3-2 in Jayhawk play and 6-5-3 overall while Pratt jumps ahead of the Cougars to the fifth seed improving to 5-4-0 in conference and 8-6 overall.
  • Cougar Soccer shut out as Neosho takes the Jayhawk title

    A lot was on the line Sunday at the Chanute Sports Complex and current two-time defending conference champion Barton Community College men's soccer team knew its trip to southeast Kansas would be a tough battle against conference front runner Neosho County Community College. The game lived up as expected as Neosho County’s Nelson Landaverde penalty kick goal 5:38 into the contest was the difference in the Panthers’ first ever win over the Cougars. Falling to 4-2-2 in conference and 6-4-3 overall, Barton’s loss not only snapped the nineteen game unbeaten streak to the Panthers but dropped the Cougars to the fourth spot in the conference standings. Neosho meanwhile improved to 12-3 on the season and 7-1 in the Jayhawk to seal their first conference championship since 2006.
  • Barton Soccer braves the elements in 5-0 win over Northeastern

    Weather elements nor the Northeastern Junior College Plainsmen could slow down the Barton Community College men’s soccer team Friday as the Cougars cruised to a 5-0 win at the Cougar Soccer Complex. The non-conference victory improves Barton to 6-3-3 on the season and drops Northeastern to 1-12-1.
  • Lightning strikes twice in Barton Soccer 3-1 win over Cowley

    After a scoreless first half, the Barton Community College men’s soccer team struck for two goals within fifty seconds early in the second half enroute to Tuesday’s 3-1 victory over Cowley College at the Cougar Soccer Complex. The victory keeps Barton’s hopes alive for another Jayhawk title as the Cougars improve to 4-1-2 for third place in the conference and 5-3-3 overall while dropping Cowley to 3-4-0 and 4-6-0 overall.
  • Sousa and Kail earn KJCCC soccer weekly awards

    Two Barton Community College men’s soccer players earned conference honors for their performances in week six of the season September 22-28. Awarded weekly to outstanding performances, in a competitive battle for the honors Renan Sousa was voted the KJCCC Player of the Week while Austin Kail shared top goalkeeper honors with Neosho County Community College’s Ryan Davis.
  • Barton Soccer scores 2-1 conference battle over Cloud County

    There weren’t many scoring opportunities Sunday afternoon at the Cougar Soccer Complex but the Barton Community College men’s soccer team made the most of their opportunities to outscore Cloud County Community College 2-1 in a key Jayhawk Conference battle. Following a scoreless first half with no shots by either team, offensive action picked up as each team put five shots on frame in the second half with the Cougars making the most of their opportunities. The victory improves the Cougars to 3-1-2 and 4-3-3 overall while Cloud County drops to 3-2-1 in the Jayhawk and 4-5-1 overall.
  • Sherrod and the Cougars strike for four first half goals in win at Hesston

    Mother nature was the only thing to slow down the Barton Community College men’s soccer team Tuesday night as four first half goals led to the non-conference victory at Hesston College. With the game being called at halftime due to inclement weather rolling through central Kansas, the Cougars forty-five minute effort improved Barton to 3-3-3 on the season while dropping Hesston to 9-5.
  • Missed opportunities result in scoreless Jayhawk battle for Barton Soccer

    Two extra periods still wasn’t enough Saturday at the Cougar Soccer Complex as the Barton Community College and Johnson County Community College men’s soccer teams couldn’t find the back of the net in a scoreless tie. As both defenses stole opportunities and goalkeepers came up with acrobatic saves preserving the shutout, the offensive attackers had their chances banging multiple shots off the frame throughout the contest. The tie keeps Barton near the top of the conference standings at 2-1-2 and 2-3-3 overall while Johnson County keeps pace at 1-1-2 in the Jayhawk and 6-4-2 overall.
  • Cougars knocked from top spot in 5-2 loss at Coffeyville

    Battling for the top spot in the early conference race, the Barton Community College men’s soccer team couldn’t keep up with the Red Ravens as Coffeyville Community College scored a 5-2 victory Wednesday night in Coffeyville. Taking an early one goal lead, Barton surrendered four straight goals to drop its first conference game of the season and fall to 2-1-1 in Jayhawk play and 2-3-2 overall while Coffeyville moves into the top spot at 3-0-0 and 6-2-0 overall.
  • Cougars get second consecutive shutout

    The Barton Community College men’s soccer team got its second straight shutout as the Cougars scored a 2-0 conference victory Tuesday over Kansas City Kansas Community College at the Cougar Soccer/Track Complex. The Cougars scored one in each half improving to 2-2-2 on the season and 2-0-1 in conference play while dropping the Blue Devils to 0-2-0 on both the season and conference. Barton will step out of conference play this Friday as the Cougars host the junior varsity from Tabor College in 4:00 p.m. kickoff at the Cougar Soccer/Track Complex.
  • Barton Soccer notches first victory with road shutout

    Knocking and knocking at the winner’s door, the Barton Community College men’s soccer team finally broke through for the Cougars’ first win of the 2014 season with a 2-0 conference shutout Saturday at Allen Community College. Recording two double overtime ties and a heartbreaking loss in the last three games, Barton scored in both halves to get the victory and improve to 1-2-2 on the season and 1-0-1 in conference play while dropping Allen to 1-3-0 on the season and 0-2-0 in conference. Barton will look to ride the momentum into its next contest as the Cougars host Kansas City Kansas Community College in a conference matchup beginning at 4:00 p.m. at the Cougar Soccer/Track Complex.
  • Cougars searching for first win, open conference play with 1-1 tie

    Still searching for their first victory of the season, the Barton Community College men’s soccer team had to settle for their second tie of the season with a 1-1 double overtime decision with Dodge City Community College Wednesday at the Cougar Soccer/Track Complex. The tie moves Barton’s record to 0-2-2 on the season while Dodge City stands at 2-1-1. Barton will next play Saturday in a 4:00 p.m. conference contest at Allen County Community College.
  • Late miscue dooms Cougar soccer

    A day removed from a grueling double overtime tie, the Barton Community College appeared headed for their second straight extra frame contest only to have a late goal put the Cougars on the short end of a 2-1 loss to Trinidad State Junior College. The loss drops the Cougars to 0-2-1 on the season while the Trojans improve to 2-0 on the season following a 1-0 win over Pratt Community College on Saturday.
  • Cougars battle for 2-2 tie

    For 110 minutes, neither Cougar team could get the edge as the Barton Community College and Western Nebraska Community College men’s soccer teams had to settle for a 2-2 tie Saturday at the Cougar Soccer/Track Complex. Barton moves to 0-1-1 on the season while Western Nebraska opens the season with the tie. Barton will return to the pitch on Sunday for a 4:00 p.m. game against Trinidad State Junior College while Western Nebraska will take on the former Barton Head Coach Kevin Kewley’s Pratt Community College Beaver team in a noon matchup.
  • Avila takes over Barton men’s soccer program

    The Barton Community College Board of Trustees approved at today’s Board meeting for Aaron Avila to take over as head coach for the men’s soccer team. Avila, who will also continue to lead the Lady Cougar soccer program, becomes the fourth coach in Barton’s nationally renowned and Region VI powerhouse men’s soccer program.
