A lot was on the line Sunday at the Chanute Sports Complex and the current two-time defending conference champion Barton Community College men's soccer team knew its trip to southeast Kansas would be a tough battle against conference front runner Neosho County Community College.  The game lived up as expected as Neosho County's Nelson Landaverde penalty kick goal 5:38 into the contest was the difference in the Panthers' first ever win over the Cougars.  Falling to 4-2-2 in conference and 6-4-3 overall, Barton's loss not only snapped the nineteen game unbeaten streak to the Panthers but dropped the Cougars to the fourth spot in the conference standings.  Neosho meanwhile improved to 12-3 on the season and 7-1 in the Jayhawk to seal their first conference championship since 2006.

With a trip to Pratt Community College the only remaining regular season contest, Barton could move up to the third seed with a victory next Thursday in the 4:00 p.m. game with the Beavers.
