Barton looked to take advantage of a strong south wind in the first half but it was the Trojans who got on the board first on Oscar Rivero Garcia's header from Julian Padilla's corner kick just 13:36 into the contest.
Fifteen minutes later the Cougars equaled the score off of the right leg of Christopher Hogg as the sophomore shaped a beautiful shot from just outside the 18' over the top of the defensive wall tucking it in near post.
With the Cougars unable to muster much offense in the second half, the Barton defense and goalkeeper Austin Kail were able to thwart most attacks as the Trojans only put five shots on frame with the decisive wind advantage.
Moments away from extra time, Barton committed a series of costly defensive miscues as Trinidad State's David Ayala and Pedro Herrera made the Cougars pay. After Barton sent the ball back deep in the Cougars' end, the Trojan's Herrera was able to squeeze between Kail and defenseman Dominic Swindler to punch the ball over the head of Kail where Ayala easily headed the game winner with just 2:10 to play.
In the earlier game of the Barton Classic, Pratt Community College under former Barton men's head soccer Kevin Kewley scored a quality 2-0 win over Western Nebraska Community College. The Beavers' James Grayston gave an early lead to the as the Topeka sophomore cleaned up a loose ball on the rebound just shy of ten minutes into the contest. Sam Nobo gave the Beavers some breathing room late making a specular diving header off a Grayston cross with 15:32 remaining in the contest.
