With south winds of more than 20mph throughout the contest, the teams took advantage scoring lone goals in regulation play. Gian Scalise gave the Cougars the early lead 9:30 into the contest taking a Jiro Barriga Toyama pass down the left side then beating Dodge City keeper Alex Rodela in the top 90 of near post.
Changing directions for second half play, Dodge City wasted little time in tying up the affair just 6:15 into the half. Fielding a Conq corner kick, Ben Carter's shot in the 8' found the right boot of Fernando Hernandez to get it past a defenseless Austin Kail to even up the contest.
