  • Lady Cougar Tennis shooting for repeat trip to nationals

    The Barton Community College women’s tennis team will begin their quest for a second straight trip to the national tournament, as play begins Friday for the Region VI Tournament held at Wichita’s Riverside Tennis Center.
  • Shorthanded Lady Cougar Tennis nearly pulls upset at No. 16 Johnson

    The shorthanded Barton Community College women’s tennis team nearly pulled the upset last Thursday in Overland Park, Kansas, dropping a 5-4 decision at No. 16 ranked Johnson County Community College to wrap up the regular season. Playing without its No. 4 singles player and member of the No. 2 doubles team, Head Coach Lyle Stickney rearranged his lineup to draw a match away from a victory. Moving Omelia Thomas to the No. 1 doubles with Karina Ono, the Lady Cougars began the dual with an 8-4 win. Having to default the No. 3 doubles, Stickney moved his normal No. 1 doubles player Barbara Codognotto to the No. 2 spot teaming with Brittanie Eskut but the tandom fell 8-2. With Johnson County playing without its No. 1 singles player due to injury, Barton picked up the top three singles matches as Ono, Codognotto, and Thomas each won their respective matches with Thomas having the match of the day winning the superset 10-6. The Lady Cougars forfeited the No. 4 singles and couldn’t pick up the remaining two matches to lose the dual 5-4. Barton falls to 2-8 on the season headed to the Region VI postseason which begins on Friday, April 25 in Wichita, Kansas.
  • Lady Cougar Tennis mauled by No. 9 Tigers

    The Barton Community College women’s tennis team was outmatched Tuesday at Great Bend's Veteran's Memorial Park tennis courts, falling to No. 9 ranked Cowley College 9-0. Letting one get away in the No. 1 doubles match, the Lady Cougars were shut out in the other two doubles matches and were outscored 72-13 against the nationally ranked Lady Tigers. Barton falls to 2-7 on the season heading into Thursday’s 1:00 p.m. regular season finale at Johnson County Community College.
  • Lady Cougar Tennis nearly blanks Hesston College in 8-1 win

    The Barton Community College women’s tennis team defeated Hesston College 8-1 Tuesday at Great Bend's Veteran's Memorial Park tennis courts. Barton swept the doubles matches before going 5-1 in singles play to improve to 2-6 on the season. The Lady Cougars will return to Vet’s Park on Saturday for a 10:00 a.m. dual with Midland University.
  • Lady Cougar Tennis upsets No. 25 Jacksonville for first victory of year, fall to three other ranked teams in Oklahoma

    The Barton Community College women's tennis team went 1-3 over the weekend against nationally ranked opponents at the Seminole State College Trojan Classic held in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. The Lady Cougars took an 8-1 loss to host and No. 18 ranked Seminole State and a 9-0 shutout loss to No. 5 ranked Collin County on Friday before rebounding on Saturday to capture their first win of the season, a 6-3 win over No. 25 Jacksonville College before losing 8-1 to No. 7 ranked North Central Texas College to wrap up the Classic. The weekend’s matches drop Barton to 1-6 on the season with little rest ahead as the Lady Cougars return to the hard court on Tuesday in hosting a 3:00 pm. dual with Hesston College.
  • Lady Cougar Tennis blanked by No. 13 Seward County

    The Barton Community College tennis women’s team got shutout by No. 13 Seward County Community College 9-0 Saturday at Great Bend's Veteran's Memorial Park tennis courts. Barton had some chances to pick up a few match wins but the Lady Saints were too deep and talented for the young Lady Cougar squad. With the loss Barton drops to 0-3 on the season while Seward County improves to 4-2. Next up for the Lady Cougars will be a trip to Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, for two days of tough competition at the Seminole State College Trojan Classic being held April 4-5.
  • Lady Cougar Tennis drops dual with Fort Hays State University

    The Barton Community College tennis women’s team wrapped up their last indoor meet Tuesday with a 7-2 loss to Fort Hays State University. Held at Club 1 Fitness Center in Great Bend, the Lady Cougars won the top doubles dual and picked up a victory in the singles in the most competitive singles match of the day. Barton will next host Seward County Community College on Saturday with first serve at 12:00 p.m. at Great Bend's Veteran's Memorial Park tennis courts.
