  • Barton softball team finding stride; wins 2 of 3 in Colby tourney

    The Barton County Community College softball team won 2 of 3 games this past weekend at the Colby Tournament before rain washed out the 2nd day of action. Rain also took care of a scheduled Jayhawk West doubleheader set for Tuesday at Colby. During the tournament, Barton put up 33 runs, but lost the opening game. After that contest, Barton scored in double digit both games as they improved to 18-35 and have now won 4 of its last 7 games. The Cougars will make up that twinbill at Colby – weather permitting – Friday in a 1 pm start.
  • Cougars knock off No. 11 ranked Seward in 2nd game of doubleheader

    The Barton County Community College softball team nearly pulled out a win in the opener of the Jayhawk West twinbill at No. 11 ranked Seward County Thursday afternoon then did turn the trick in the 2nd contest. Barton led 5-3 late in the 1st game before Seward rallied for its 22nd straight win on the season by a 10-5 score. Barton, however, did not let that happen in the 2nd game as the Cougars held off an attempted Seward rally for a 5-1 win. The win moves Barton to 8-6 in the West and 16-34 overall. Seward lost for the 1st time in West action, falling to 13-1 and 44-6 overall.
  • Montana duo Pearce, Wilson to play softball for Cougars

    The Barton County Community College softball team released the signing of a pair of Montana products in Brooke Pearce and Sarah Wilson, both from Skyview High School in Billings. Pearce was a pitcher and outfielder for Skyview while Wilson played shortstop. Both will be part of a large recruiting class signed by Barton Coach Tom Curtis. Skyview has been a AA State Tournament team that past 2 seasons.
  • Trio of in-state players sign with Barton softball

    The Barton County Community College softball team signed a pair of in-state players recently as Deanna Young, Megan Wedel, and Maria Carr bring all league honors to the Barton softball diamond. Two come from the Kansas City area as Young is a catcher from Shawnee Mission East High School and Carr was a shortstop for Kansas City Piper. Wedel is a pitcher/infielder from Moundridge.
  • Junction City duo signs with Barton softball

    The Barton County Community College softball team picked up a pair of Junction City High School players with the signings of Christine Cervera and Melissa Boller. Cervera will be an infielder and pitcher for the Cougars while Boller will play the outfield at Barton. Cervera is the sister of Keri Cervera, a former Barton softball player.
  • Barton inks two more softball players from Texas

    The Barton County Community College softball team added two more players from south Texas recently, signing Georgette Garza and Jennifer Jackson. Both players come to Barton from Richard King High School in Corpus Christi. The area has been a hotbed this year for Barton as the Cougars also signed the top player in the region in Camille Cruz.
  • Barton softball signs all state pitcher from Topeka

    The Barton County Community College softball team signed an all-state pitcher recently as Grace Toelkes inked to play for the Cougars and Coach Tom Curtis next season. Toelkes just completed her senior season at Shawnee Heights in Topeka, leading her team to the Class 5A state tournament where the Thunderbirds fell in the 1st round to the eventual champion.
  • Barton inks top softball player in South Texas

    The Barton County Community College softball team signed a prize recruit this past weekend, nabbing the South Texas MVP in pitcher Camille Cruz. Cruz is a graduate of Gregory-Portland High School in a suburb of Corpus Christi, where she helped her school to the Region semifinals this past season.
