Barton Wrestling brings home No. 15 national finish, Bardezbain crowned Barton’s first All-American

The Barton Community College Wrestling team set a high standard this weekend for future Cougar wrestlers bringing home an individual All-American and a No. 15 team finish at the NJCAA Wrestling National Championships held in Council Bluffs, Iowa. Competing in its first season earning 36.5 points against the nation’s best, the Cougars had six wrestlers one win away from the All-American rounds with sophomore Will Bardezbain the lone survivor earning fifth place nationally and Barton’s first wrestling All-American honor.

Barton Wrestling headed for Nationals, Bammes and Bardezbain take home top awards as all ten Cougars qualify

The Barton Community College Wrestling team continued to make noise in its first year of competition taking second place in the NJCAA West/Central District Championships held Saturday in Chanute, Kansas. The Cougars were led by the Coach of the Year Mike Bammes getting an individual title from Will Bardezbain in the 125 weight class with all ten athletes finishing in the top five. Great Bend’s Kade Sander took home the second place 157 pound medal while the rest of the Cougars took home four third places, two fourth, and two fifth places. As a team the Cougars scored 131.0 finishing second only to the nation’s top ranked Golden Norseman of Northeastern Oklahoma A&M College’s 170.5 points and outscoring Pratt Community College’s third place 104.0 score. Barton will next head to the NJCAA Championships in Council Bluffs, Iowa, held February 26-27 in the Mid-America Center.

Barton Wrestling sweeps Panther Duals with two more wins over Region VI foes

The Barton Community College Wrestling team headed to Chanute, Kansas, on Saturday returning home with a clean sweep of the Panther Duals hosted by Neosho County Community College. The day began with a pair of duals with fellow Region VI foes as the Cougars dispelled Colby Community College 34-11 before outscoring the host Panthers 29-17. Barton concluded their three match day getting six pins in their eight wrestled weight classes for a convincing 45-12 victory over Wentworth Military Academy. Barton improves to 8-4 outscoring opponents 343-170 in dual matches this season. The Cougars will take a couple of weeks off from mat competition in preparation to head back to Chanute on Saturday, February 13, for the Region VI Championships.

Barton Wrestling top Kansas two-year, finishes 5th overall at Kansas Cup

Continuing to make its mark in its first year of competition, the Barton Community College Wrestling team finished first among fellow Kansas community colleges this past weekend at the Kansas Cup hosted by Newman University in Wichita, Kansas. Getting off to a rough first round start, the Cougars battled back with claiming seven individual top-six finishes to place fifth overall in the twelve team tournament. Barton will next head to Chanute on Saturday as the Cougars will wrestle in three duals hosted by Neosho County Community College.

Barton Wrestling opens Cougar Duals with rout of Mavericks

If a score is any indication of progress, the Barton Community College Wrestling team has shown a lot of progress in two months as the Cougars shut out Northwest Kansas Technical College in the first match of Tuesday night’s Cougar Dual at the Barton Gym. Having fell to the Mavericks 19-18 back on November 14 in Goodland, the Cougars swept all weight classes wrestled to chalk up a 36-0 victory. Now 5-3 in duals on the season, the Cougars have outscored opponents 235-130. Barton will look to capture the second match of the night in its first meeting with Pratt Community College.

Cougars’ open matches prove costly falling to Pratt in final match of Cougar Duals

Twenty minutes after their opening shutout win in Tuesday’s duals at the Barton Gym, the Barton Community College Wrestling team had its work cut out for them with fellow conference foe Pratt Community College. In the first meeting of the two teams, the match count finished at four apiece with the Cougars outscoring Pratt by six but two forfeits proved to be too much as Barton dropped the 25-19 match. The loss drops the Cougars to 5-4 on the season in duals with Barton outscoring opponents 254-155. Barton will next head to Wichita for Sunday’s Kansas Cup hosted by Newman University.

Sander breaks through for third place finish leading Barton Wrestling at Hastings’ Cusatis Open

The Barton Community College wrestling team took the mat for the second time this spring in the state of Nebraska competing in the Cusatis Open this past Saturday hosted by Hastings College in Hastings, NE. The Cougars had three reaching the semifinals with Kade Sander being the lone survivor going on to capture his first third place of the season after finishing fourth four other times including as recent as last week’s meet. Barton will stay in the state of Kansas until the end of the month beginning with Thursday’s dual meet held at Neosho County Community College in Chanute, Kansas.

Sander with fourth place finish leads tough 2016 start for Cougar Wrestling

The Barton Community College wrestling team began its 2016 portion of the schedule this past Saturday competing in the Viking-Warrior Open hosted by Midland University in Fremont, NE. Sending just six wrestlers to the mat, Great Bend’s Kade Sander was the lone survivor reaching the semifinals before finishing with a fourth placing. The Cougars return to the state of Nebraska again next Saturday participating in the Hastings Open held in Hastings, Nebraska.

Cougar Wrestling wraps up fall semester at Jet Invite

The Barton Community College wrestling team wrapped up its fall portion of the schedule with two competitions within three days. The Cougars traveled to Parsons, Kansas, on Friday picking up a 25-9 conference dual win over Labette Community College before making its way to Wichita for Sunday’s Jet Invite hosted by Newman University. Sending nine wrestlers to the mat on Sunday, the Cougars scored 15.5 team points to finish sixth in the ten team Invite. Barton will take the holidays off from competition before returning to action January 2 at the Midland Open in Fremont, Nebraska.

Barton Wrestling dominates dual at Labette

The Barton Community College Wrestling team got its first taste of conference head-to-head action Friday night as the Cougars took care of host Labette Community College 25-9 in Parsons, Kansas. The Cougars took seven out of the ten weight classes picking up its first conference win in Barton’s inaugural season. Barton will have a quick turnaround as the Cougars head to Wichita on Sunday for the Jet Invite hosted by Newman University beginning at 9:00 a.m.

Vesta leads Barton Wrestling against power packed Bob Smith Open

Two days after hosting its first ever home match and taking on a ranked opponent, the Barton Community College wrestling team again hit the mats against nationally ranked wrestlers competing Sunday in the annual Bob Smith Open hosted by Fort Hays State University in Hays, Kansas. Featuring nearly 300 wrestlers from powerhouse wrestling schools including four-year universities, the Cougars compiled a 15-30 individual match record with one reaching the championship bracket semifinals.

Barton Wrestling falls to nationally ranked Norsemen, Vesta gets first victory in historic home opener

Unfortunately for the Barton Community College Wrestling team the nationally ranked Golden Norsemen of Northeastern Oklahoma A&M College were party spoilers in handing the Cougars a resounding 45-3 defeat in the inaugural home wrestling meet Friday evening at the Barton Gym. Cougar freshman Zach Vesta made Barton history capturing the first individual home match as NEO captured nine of the ten matches including five falls as the currently No. 14 ranked Norsemen put on a clinic from its high caliber athletes within a program that finished fifth nationally last season after having won the national title two years ago. Barton will have short rest as the Cougars head to Hays, Kansas, on Sunday for the highly competitive Bob Smith Open hosted by Fort Hays State University beginning at 9:00 a.m. at Gross Memorial Coliseum.

Sander’s 4th Place finish highlights Barton Wrestling performances at 5th Annual UNK Holiday Inn Open

The Barton Community College Wrestling team competed this past Saturday at the fifth annual UNK Holiday Inn Open held in Kearney, Nebraska. The non-team scoring event featured forty-schools with over 600 hundred wrestlers and 700 matches.

Barton Wrestling knocks off ranked opponent in 3-2 weekend at Northwest Tech Duals

Competing in two open tournaments to begin the season, the Barton Community College Wrestling team had its first dual experience this past Saturday competing at the Northwest Kansas Technical College Duals held in Goodland, Kansas. The Cougars won thirty-one of the forty-six matches going 3-2 in the duals while also going 6-1 in exhibition matches with five wrestlers coming home unbeaten from the weekend.

Sander leads Barton Wrestling in nationally ranked field at Swede Open

The Barton Community College Wrestling team competed this past Saturday at the fifth annual Swede Open held in Lindsborg, Kansas. Facing a field of NAIA and NCAA Division II ranked wrestlers, the Cougars came through with a 16-28 overall individual record and one fourth place finish.

Bardezbain leads six placers in Barton Wrestling’s season opener

Following a year in the making, history was made Sunday as the Barton Community College Wrestling program opened its inaugural season competing in the Dan Harris Open at Baker University in Baldwin City, Kansas. Twelve Cougars including three unattached wrestlers competed in their first meet representing the Barton blue finishing the one-day event 28-24 overall in matches claiming an individual title, two third place finishes, and three fourth places.
