Barton Wrestling knocks off ranked opponent in 3-2 weekend at Northwest Tech Duals
Competing in two open tournaments to begin the season, the Barton Community College Wrestling team had its first dual experience this past Saturday competing at the Northwest Kansas Technical College Duals held in Goodland, Kansas. The Cougars won thirty-one of the forty-six matches going 3-2 in the duals while also going 6-1 in exhibition matches with five wrestlers coming home unbeaten from the weekend.

Victories in the day included a 50-0 shutout over No. 12 ranked Colby Community College, a 51-6 win over Wentworth Military Academy, and a 39-15 defeat of Northwest Tech's B-team. Scoring points haunted the Cougars in its two losses as Barton won half of its matches against No. 16 host Northwest Tech's A-team but fell by one point 19-18, then won four of the ten against No. 20 Western Wyoming Community College getting outdistanced 36-13.
Tim Johnson and Kade Sander led the Cougars unbeaten weekend as the freshman each went 5-0. Sean Taborsky was a perfect 3-0 while Christian Strother and Devon Baker each won their lone match.
Barton will be back on the mats next Saturday as the Cougars travel to Kearney, Nebraska, for the 5th Annual Holiday Inn Open hosted by the University of Nebraska-Kearney.
