Corrales' program impact leads 5th ranked Cougars in tune-up for post-season play #GoBarton

The 5th ranked Barton Community College men's soccer team stepped out of conference play Tuesday evening for an additional post-season tune-up in chalking up a 9-0 victory over the junior varsity squad of Newman University.

Playing a host of reserve players for the majority of the contest on the Jets home turf, Barton put four in the net in first half action before striking for five goals in eleven minutes in cruising to its fifth straight victory.

The top seeded Cougars, now 15-1-3 on the season, enter post-season play on Saturday hosting a first-round Plains District playoff game Saturday at 1:00 p.m. versus sixth seeded Coffeyville Community College (3-7-2, 7-7-4). If the Cougars win, Barton will additionally host a semifinal match on Wednesday, November 1.

Freshman Yeshua Corrales made the most of his opportunity producing a four-goal haul, etching his name into program history matching four others for the second most net shakers in a contest, as well as, matching four previous in accumulating eight ponts.

Harry Newman holds the record with five goals in the 2009 season as Corrales joins Colin Roemer, Fabio Priore, Barton Sports Hall of Fame inductee Kevin Ellis, and Desmond Yankey as his eight point achievement ranks 4th most with four others.

Wilmont Manneh began the scoring 8:27 into the contest on the first of two first half assists from Arthur Prado.

Corrales put the next tally on the board six minutes later before erupting with a second half hat-trick performance pounding the net three times in eight minutes including the final two marks on the scoreboard.

Matching Prado with a pair of assists, Yusuf Dabo also added his own bagging of two points for his first collegiate goal in putting Barton up 3-0 completing Prado's second assist.

Yuki Minari also enjoyed a collegiate first by distributing the first of Corrales' second half goals.

Isoumail Camara capped Barton's first half scoring with eight minutes left in the period before finding the net again unassisted thirty-minutes into the second frame for his 3rd of the year to kick-start the Cougars' quick-strike flurry of five tallies in eleven minutes.

Barton's leading goal scorer Lucas Constante picked up his 14th of the year in less than ten minutes of pitch time, delivering Henrique Cruz' 6th assist of the year to tie Loic Kanku for the team distribution lead.

Both Cougar goalkeepers used in the contest turned back a pair of frame shots each in combining for the team's 7th shutout of the year. Ayden Thompson worked the opening forty-five to earn his second victory of the season with Victor Chavez guarding the pipes in second half action.
