Barton sweeps NO-Enid and Brown Mackie
The Barton County Community College baseball team rolled to 3 wins this past week, defeating Northern Oklahoma-Enid twice and Brown Mackie once – all on the road. The Cougars won at Enid by scores of 19-2 and 7-2 then knocked in 15 runs in a 15-5 win in Salina. The wins move Barton's winning streak to 5 as the Cougars improved to 11-6 overall this season.

Highlights
Barton's bats exploded in the opener at Enid as the Cougars posted runs in every inning but the 1st. Barton led 9-0 heading into the bottom of the 4th before surrendering its only 2 runs of the game. A 10-run 5th inning put the contest well out of reach and ended the game early by the run rule. Everyone who batted in the game had at least 1 hit for the Cougars with David Wilson leading the way with 4 hits, going 4-of-5 in the game with 5 RBI and 3 runs scored. The sophomore center fielder hit a 3-run homer the 5th for the Cougars. Mitch Cooper had 3 hits and scored twice while Anthony Dreiling, Kenny Burkhead and Tyler Rzepka each had 2 hits. Rzepka drove in 3 while Burkhead and Dreiling each scored 3 times. Ryan Anthony pitched all 5 innings for the win.

In the 2nd game with Northern Oklahoma-Enid, Barton jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the opening inning and never trailed. While the bats did cool from a torrid pace (20 runs in 3 innings over the 2 games) the Cougars were never threatened, leading 5-0 and 7-1 during the win. Barton pounded out 5 hits in the opening inning, starting with 3 straight hits that produced a run when Tyler Metcalf drove in Austin Holt. Burkhead later drove in Dreiling and Cooper singled in Metcalf to follow to give Barton 3-0 lead with 1 out. A Ty Stivers ground out drove in Burkhead for the 4-0 lead. Stivers later drove in 2 more with a 5th inning double. Barton's other run came on a Brock Wells singled that scored Marc Albers. Ryan Sheldon improved to 2-2 with the win.

The Cougars got off to a rough start in Salina against Brown Mackie, but rallied for the 8-inning run-rule win in the single-game, 9-inning contest. Brown Mackie scored twice in the 1st inning for a 2-0 lead but Barton bounced right back with a 5-run 2nd inning to grab the lead. A Bryce Scott 2-run homer highlighted the inning for the Cougars. Barton didn't keep that lead long as the Lions scored 3 times in the bottom of the 2nd to even the score at 5-all. That is when the Cougars pitching staff buckled down while the offense continued to drive in runs. Barton scored 3 more times in the 3rd for an 8-5 lead and never looked back. Holt belted a 2-run homer in that 3-run 3rd. When it was over, Barton pounded out 18 hits and scored 15 times. Albers had 4 hits, drove in 2 and scored 3 in the win. Wilson had 3 hits while Holt drove in 4. Jeff Edlefsen picked up the win in relief, coming on in the 2nd inning to shut down the Lions. He and 4 other Barton pitchers' combined to shutout the Lions in the final 6 innings.
