Barton's Torregrosa and Longwe earn ITA All-America Award

Following a final four national finish, the Barton Community College No. 1 women’s tennis doubles team of Neus Torregrosa and Idah Longwe have been named to the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) JUCO All-America Team for the 2017 season.

National run ends in semifinals for Barton Tennis duo; Lady Cougars' ninth place best since 2008

A tremendous season came to an end Wednesday in Tucson, Arizona, as the No. 1 doubles team of Neus Torregrosa and Idah Longwe of the Barton Community College women’s tennis team had their nine match win streak snapped 6-2, 7-5 in the semifinal round of the NJCAA Division I National Tennis Championships held at the Reffkin Tennis Center.

The Barton Community College women’s tennis team took some hits on day two of the NJCAA Division I National Tennis Championships in Tucson, Arizona. With the dust settling from the day’s Round of 16 action at the Reffkin Tennis Center, the Lady Cougars dropped from the top spot on the leaderboard to eighth place with just two entries remaining.

No. 16 Barton Women's Tennis sweeps first day, sits atop NJCAA Championship leaderboard

The Barton Community College women’s tennis team got off to a great start on the first day of the NJCAA Division I National Tennis Championships, winning all of Sunday’s nine matches at the Reffkin Tennis Center in Tucson, Arizona. Sweeping all six singles matches in straight sets before capturing the afternoon’s three doubles matches, the No. 16 ranked Lady Cougars sit atop the standings with a perfect eighteen points, two points ahead of the Marion Military Institute squad who Barton beat at the No. 3 singles match. The competition cranks up on Monday as the Lady Cougars return to the court early morning to begin play in the Round of 16.

Torregrosa and Longwe capture Region VI title, Lady Cougar Tennis headed to nationals

The Barton Community College women’s tennis team had one entry standing for the final day of the Region VI Championships, coming away with a title to conclude Barton’s hosting of the tournament at Veteran’s Park here in Great Bend. The No. 16 ranked Lady Cougar squad finished third in the region placing with six points, 2.5 points behind No. 8 ranked Cowley College, and well behind the No. 6 ranked Lady Saints of Seward County Community College’s seventeen points for the title.

Lady Cougar Tennis drops dual with Fort Hays State University

The Barton Community College women’s tennis team got a little extra time on the court this past Thursday, taking on the Fort Hays State University Tigers in a dual at the Ellinwood Grade School tennis courts. Winning both the top doubles and singles match, the Lady Cougars dropped the remaining two tandem matches going on to lose the match 6-3. Barton will next head to Newton on Tuesday for a 5:00 p.m. dual against Bethel College in its final tune-up for the post season.

Torregrosa knocks off third ranked while Longwe's streak ends as No. 17 Lady Cougars come up short against No. 10 Cowley

Two wins were all the Barton Community College women’s tennis team could score Tuesday at Great Bend's Veteran's Memorial Park tennis courts, but the victors were big ones despite the No. 17 Lady Cougars’ 7-2 loss to No. 10 Cowley College. Barton will have one final tune-up before hosting next weekend’s Region VI Championship as the Lady Cougars will host Fort Hays State University at 2:00 p.m. Thursday at the Ellinwood Grade School tennis courts.

No. 17 Lady Cougars conclude Oklahoma weekend with victory; Longwe wins tenth straight

The No. 17 ranked Barton County Community College women’s tennis team went 1-2 this weekend at the Seminole State College Dual Match Invite held at the Oklahoma Tennis Center in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. The Lady Cougars began the weekend on Friday taking on No. 6 ranked Seward County Community College for the second time in less than a week. Barton again struggled against the high powered Lady Saints but pulled off a couple of singles victories in dropping the 7-2 contest. In the afternoon match Barton lost a hard fought 5-4 match to No. 15 ranked North Central Texas College before concluding the weekend on Saturday with a 7-2 victory over No. 18 New Mexico Military Institute. Now 5-8 on the season, the Lady Cougars return to conference action on Tuesday in welcoming No. 10 ranked Cowley College for a 1:00 p.m. duel at Veteran’s Memorial Park tennis courts.

No. 17 Lady Cougars split Monday home tennis action

The Barton County Community College women’s tennis team split a pair of home matchups Monday. In the morning action held at the Ellinwood Tennis Courts, the No. 17 Lady Cougars took on the nation’s No. 6 ranked Seward County Community College Lady Saints managing a victory at the No. 3 doubles but falling 8-1 in the Jayhawk Conference opener. Returning to Great Bend’s Veterans Memorial Park tennis courts for the afternoon matches, the Lady Cougars took care of Iowa Central Community College 4-0 as the first-year Tritons did not compete a full squad. The day’s action leaves the Lady Cougars at 4-6 on the year headed into this weekend’s Seminole State College Dual Match Invite held at the Oklahoma Tennis Center in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.

Barton Women's Tennis falls to Colorado Christian University

The Barton Community College women’s tennis team managed just two victories in Saturday’s dual with NCAA Division II Colorado Christian University, falling 7-2 at Great Bend's Veteran's Memorial Park tennis courts. The No. 17 ranked Lady Cougars drop to 3-5 on the season, returning to Vets Park on Monday for a pair of matches, beginning with the conference opening match versus No. 6 ranked Seward County Community College at 9:00 a.m. followed with a 3:30 p.m. non-conference match against Iowa Central Community College.

No. 17 ranked Lady Cougar Tennis handles Tabor College 8-1

The Barton Community College women’s tennis team swept Thursday’s doubles action laying the foundation for an 8-1 victory over Tabor College held at Great Bend's Veteran's Memorial Park tennis courts. Taking care of the opening tandem matches by a 24-9 score, the No. 17 ranked Lady Cougars went on to take five of the six singles matches in rebounding from a loss on Tuesday versus Southwestern College. Now 3-4 on the season, Barton will have over a week off from competition before returning to Vet’s Park on Saturday, March 25, for an 8:00 a.m. dual with Colorado Christian University.

Weather forces postponement of Barton-Bethel tennis dual

Due to cold and windy weather conditions forecasted for Saturday, the Barton Community College tennis team’s Saturday dual with Bethel College in Wichita has been postponed with a possible make-up date yet to be determined.

No. 19 Barton women's tennis opens season in Texas, knocks off No. 16 New Mexico Military

Taking on three nationally ranked teams this past weekend in Plano, Texas, the No. 19 Barton County Community College women’s tennis team returned from the Collin Super Bash with a victory over No. 16 ranked New Mexico Military Institute to conclude season opener. The Lady Cougars had two matches on Friday, taking on host and No. 11 ranked Collin College first winning the No. 1 doubles and singles matches but fell to the host 7-2. Top ranked Tyler Junior College loomed for the afternoon matches with the Apaches taking all nine matches in dominating fashion. Barton wrapped up the trip on Saturday sweeping all the doubles matches and winning five of the six singles matches in knocking off the Broncos 8-1. The Lady Cougars will take a couple of weeks away from competition before heading to Lindsborg, Kansas, on Saturday, February 25, for an 11:00 a.m. first serve against Bethany College.
