No. 17 Lady Cougars conclude Oklahoma weekend with victory; Longwe wins tenth straight

The No. 17 ranked Barton County Community College women's tennis team went 1-2 this weekend at the Seminole State College Dual Match Invite held at the Oklahoma Tennis Center in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.  The Lady Cougars began the weekend on Friday taking on No. 6 ranked Seward County Community College for the second time in less than a week. Barton again struggled against the high powered Lady Saints but pulled off a couple of singles victories in dropping the 7-2 contest.  In the afternoon match Barton lost a hard fought 5-4 match to No. 15 ranked North Central Texas College before concluding the weekend on Saturday with a 7-2 victory over No. 18 New Mexico Military Institute.   Now 5-8 on the season, the Lady Cougars return to conference action on Tuesday in welcoming No. 10 ranked Cowley College for a 1:00 p.m. duel at Veteran's Memorial Park tennis courts.

Idah Longwe had a great weekend of competition picking up three singles wins while teaming with Neus Torregrosa for a pair of No. 1 doubles victories.  Longwe began the two-day three-match stretch with an 8-3 victory over Seward County's Fernanda Santana followed by a third set come from behind 5-7, 6-0, 10-1, victory over Nakita Hill of NNCTC.  Longwe concluded her singles play Saturday morning moving up the lineup one slot to No. 3, recording a dominating 8-1 win over NMMI's Becsave Pacheco to win her tenth straight improving her record to 10-2.

In No. 1 doubles play Longwe and Torregrosa had one of their best stretches of team tennis beginning with a valiant effort in an 8-5 loss to the Lady Saints' Thalita Rodrigues and Lisa Suzuki after having lost 8-3 to the pair four days earlier.  The tandem bounced back with consecutive 8-2 victories, the first coming over NCTC's Essence Green and Agustina Grimolizzi and on Saturday over NMMI's Francisca Nyarko and Mikayla Lopez.

No. 30 ranked Torregrosa also had a good weekend on the court despite falling to No. 46 Sarah Manseri 8-5 to begin the weekend.  In the afternoon match Torregrosa shook off a slow start trailing 5-2 to NCTC's Ana-Christina Orozco before dominating the No. 35 ranked player 11-3 the rest of the way in a 7-6(7-1), 6-2, win.  On Saturday, Torregrosa helped Longwe for the doubles victory before sitting out her singles match in finishing the weekend 3-2 in her matches.

In addition to Longwe's No. 4 singles victory against Seward County, Juliana Seabra picked up the other victory with a highly competitive 9-8 win outscoring the Lady Saints Martina Borges 14-12 in the tie-breaker.

The No. 3 doubles duo of Jenna Groene and Shai Cartmill picked up their lone victory in their two matches played earning an 8-5 win over NCTC's Hill and Kelsea Baksh to wind up Friday's play having dropped an 8-1 decision earlier to Seward County's Tadi Mwrew and Madison Hoelting.  The tandem was credited with a win on Saturday with NMMI defaulting the match before each went to singles play earning 8-0 wins in the No. 4 and No. 5 matches respectively over Katarzyna Rosikon and Kathy Clouthier.
