Lady Cougars set new personal bests and twelve top-ten performances at KT Woodman

A week following a strong performance in Texas, the Barton Community College women's track and field team returned to the state of Kansas with more improving efforts competing this past weekend in the K.T. Woodman Classic in Wichita, Kansas.   The Lady Cougars brought home a gold and twelve top-ten finishes to go along with twelve personal best and national qualifying level performances.

O'neisha Glover brought home the lone gold in the 400m in 56.94 exceeding the national qualifying time.  Two Lady Cougars recorded personal bests in the event as Brooklyn Polk earned a fourth place 57.81 finish while Asha Douglas' 59.30 finished twelfth.  Two spots but just .61 behind was Widline Lageroy's 59.91 rounding out the four Barton event entries. 

Douglas' best performance came in the 800m finishing just .57 of a second out of the top spot with a nation's top ten time of 2:17.83.  Fellow Lady Cougar Julee McAtee also had a good showing in the event surpassing her personal best clocking a 2:32.65 in placing twenty-fifth overall.

The Lady Cougars were strong in the hurdle events with three national qualifying level performances.  Tamara Style led the way with a nation's fourth best 400m hurdle time of 1:03.13 finishing fourth in the thirty-five entry event while teammate Brianna Payne cracked the top ten with a personal best 1:04.95.   Having the nation's eleventh best time in the 400m hurdles, Payne also competed in the 100m hurdles recording her second personal best effort of the day with a thirteenth nation's best 14.51 in the Woodman sixth place finish.

After a record-breaking multi-event performance last weekend, freshman talent Ayesha Champagnie focused on two events over the weekend competing in the javelin and shot put.   Finishing fourth in the javelin, Champagnie's throw of 46.31m (151-11) hit the school charts at No. 5 and the second best national throw behind her own 47.57m throw to open the outdoor season.

Champagnie was joined by Michelle Tomlin in the shot put as the duo took fifth and seventh exceeding national marks of 13.45m and 13.17m respectively.  Tomlin also went on to capture fifth in the discus again exceeding the national qualifying mark with a 43.40m (142-05) throw.

Holly Pierce continued her strong sophomore season putting another national qualifying 3000m steeplechase time on the board with a school fourth best time of 12:14.09.

The Lady Cougars will take a little time away from the track in preparation for the KJCCC and Region VI Outdoor Championships to be held April 28-30 in Garden City, Kansas.
