The Barton Community College women’s basketball team was not able to defend its Region VI Championships after running into hot-shooting Independence in the quarterfinals. Independence ended the Cougars in the quarters with a 79-67 win over the Cougars Friday night at Koch Arena in Wichita. Barton seasons ends with a 25-7 record and the Jayhawk West championship – a title the Cougars defended this season. Indy lost to eventual Region VI Champion Hutchinson in the semifinals. Hutch will take a 30-4 record into the NJCAA National Tournament.

The Barton Community College women’s basketball team began defense of its Region VI Championships last season with a tougher-than-expected opening round win over Allen County Tuesday night at the Barton Gym. The Cougars finally took control of the game in the final 12 minutes to secure a 79-56 win over the Red Devils and move into quarterfinal action Friday night at Koch Arena in Wichita. The Cougars will play Independence at 7 pm for the right to move into the semifinals. Barton is now 25-6 and winners of 15 straight games. Allen ends its season with a 5-26 mark.

The Barton Community College women’s basketball team made it back-to-back Jayhawk West titles Saturday night with a 70-53 win over Pratt at the Barton Gym. The Cougars won the West title outright with for the 2nd straight season with the win. Barton is 43-5 in West play the past 3 seasons. The Cougars ended the regular season with a 14-game winning streak, which they will take into Region VI play. Barton concluded the regular season with a 24-6 overall mark and 14-2 record in West play. Pratt ends it regular season at 10-20 overall record and a 3-13 conference mark. The Cougars will be at home Tuesday for its Region VI playoff open against Allen County. Barton is the top seed in the West in the playoffs while Allen is the 8th seed in the East. Tip for the contest will be at 6 pm at the Barton Gym.

The Barton Community College women’s basketball team earned at least a share of the Jayhawk West title Wednesday night and is now one win from claiming the title outright for the 2nd straight season. Barton defeated Colby 85-56 at the Community Building in Colby to move to 13-2 in Jayhawk West play – 1 game ahead of a trio of teams with just 1 game to play. The Cougars, ranked No 16 in the NJCAA, can claim back-to-back titles with a win over Pratt Saturday night at the Barton Gym. Barton is now 23-6 overall this season and have won 13 straight basketball games. Colby fell to 9-21 and 4-12 as the Trojans played their regular season finale.

The Barton Community College women’s basketball team took a major step toward defending its Jayhawk West title Wednesday night with a 77-65 win over Hutchinson at the Barton Gym. The win put the Cougars in sole possession of 1st place in the West with 2 games to play. Barton is now 12-2 in the conference and 22-6 overall while Hutch falls to 10-3 and 23-4. Barton must win a road game at Colby and a home game against Pratt to secure its 2nd straight West title. The Cougars are off Saturday before hitting the road for its final road contest at Colby Wednesday in a 5:30 pm tip at the Community Building. Barton will take a 12-game winning streak to Colby.

The Barton Community College women’s basketball team finished up its final details Saturday night to set up a league-leading showdown with Hutchinson Wednesday at the Barton Gym. The No. 11 Cougars went to El Dorado and handed Butler a 69-44 defeat at the Power Plant. The win was the 11th straight for the streaking Cougars. Barton sits 1/2 game up in the West at 11-2 with Hutchinson 1/2 game back at 10-2. Seward County and Cloud County each have 3 losses. The No. 16 Cougars are now 21-6 overall. Butler fell to 13-13 overall and 5-7 in the West. Hutchinson will bring a No. 18 ranking and 23-3 overall mark into the Barton Gym Wednesday. The winner of the 6 pm tip will be alone in 1st place as the only 2 loss team in the conference.

The Barton Community College women’s basketball team moved a step closer to defending its Jayhawk West title with an 88-61 win over Garden City Wednesday night at the Barton Gym in Great Bend. The Cougars used a big first half from Jordi James to build a 19-point halftime lead and cruise to the conference win. The win was the 100th in the coaching career of Barton coach Jill Barclay. Barton improves to 10-2 in the West and has now won 10 straight contests. The Cougars are 20-6 overall. Garden falls to 3-8 in the West and 9-16 overall. Barton will travel to El Dorado Saturday to take on Butler County in West play. Tip for the contest will be 5:30 pm.

The Barton Community College women’s basketball team didn’t play its prettiest basketball game of the season, but managed to coast to an easy win Saturday afternoon in Dodge City. Barton won its 9th straight of the season with a 70-54 win over Dodge at the Civic Center. The win kept Barton tied for the top spot in the Jayhawk West, improving to 9-2 in conference action and 19-6 overall. Barton is currently tied with Cloud County and Hutchinson for the top spot in the West with Seward one game back. The Conquistadors fell to 0-11 in the West and 4-21 overall. The Cougars will back in action Wednesday night when Garden City will pay a visit to the Barton Gym for a 6 pm tip.

The Barton Community College women’s basketball team is still rolling right along, recording its 8th straight win and back-to-back wins over ranked teams. The Cougars beat Jayhawk West co-leader and No. 24 ranked Seward County Wednesday night at the Barton Gym, 80-78, to retain a share of the West lead themselves. Barton won the contest with a pair of free throws from Tressie Todd with less than 1 second to play. The win comes on the heels of an 81-69 win over No. 10 Cloud County the previous contest. The Cougars are now 8-2 in the West and tied with Cloud and Hutchinson atop the West with Seward one game back. Barton (18-6) will travel to Dodge City Saturday for a 2 pm tip against the Conquistadors (0-10, 4-20).

The Barton Community College women’s basketball team has worked its way back from an 0-2 start to Jayhawk West play to a tie atop the conference after defeating co-leader Cloud County 81-69 at the Barton Gym Monday. The win was the 7th straight for the Cougars since that 0-2 start and they now stand with 3 other teams at 7-2 in the West. Cloud entered the game ranked No. 10 in the NJCAA. Barton improves to 17-6 overall with the win while Cloud – also 7-2 in the West – is now 19-4. The Cougars don’t get a breather as West co-leader Seward County comes to the Barton Gym Wednesday for a 6 pm tip. Seward will be coming off a loss to the 4th co-leader Hutchinson Monday night in Liberal.

The Barton Community College women’s basketball team won its 6th straight Jayhawk West contest with a tougher than expected road win at Pratt. The Cougars prevailed with a 63-46 win at the Lesh Sports Arena but had to work for it. Barton is now 6-2 in the West after falling on the road at Cloud and Seward to start the West season. The Cougars are 16-6 overall. Pratt falls to 1-7 and 8-14. Barton will get a chance to seek some revenge on Cloud and Seward as the two teams visit the Barton Gym Monday and Wednesday. Both games will tip at 6 pm.

The Barton Community College women’s basketball team shook off a sluggish 1st half to roll to a 42-point blowout of Colby Wednesday night at the Barton Gym. The Cougars won the Jayhawk West match 89-47 for their 5th straight win. Barton outscored Colby by 36 in the 2nd half for the easy win. The Cougars remain tied for 3rd in the West. Barton is now 5-2 in the West and 15-6 overall on the season. Colby fell to 3-5 and 8-14.

The Barton Community College women’s basketball team re-established itself as a contender for the Jayhawk West title with a big road win Wednesday night at Hutchinson. The Cougars picked up a 67-65 win over Hutch at the Sports Arena for their 4th straight win since dropping back-to-back games to start the West season. The win improved Barton to 4-2 in the West and 14-6 overall while Hutch fell to 3-2 and 16-3. The lone losses for Barton came on the road to West leading Cloud and 2nd place Seward. The Cougars have worked their way back to 3rd and will return home Wednesday to take on Colby.

The Barton Community College women’s basketball team earned a Jayhawk Conference road win Wednesday night with an 82-65 win over Garden City at the Perryman Complex. The Cougars, who started the West season with losses at ranked teams Cloud County and Seward County, have battled back to even their West record at 2-2 this season. Barton is now 12-6 overall. Garden fell to 1-2 in the West and 7-10 overall. The Cougars are back at home Saturday for West action with Butler. The game will tip 30 minutes earlier than usual at the Barton Gym, starting at 5:30 pm to accommodate the Hall of Fame Ceremonies between the women’s and men’s games.

The Barton Community College women’s basketball team earned its 1st Jayhawk West win of the season Saturday night with an 89-37 drubbing of Dodge City at the Barton Gym. The Cougars forced Dodge City into 33 turnovers to collect the win and snap a 3-game losing skid. The win improves Barton to 1-2 in the West and 11-6 overall. Dodge City drops to 0-3 and 4-13. The Cougars will be in search of win No. 2 when they travel to Garden City Wednesday for a 5:30 pm tip against the Broncbusters. Garden is 1-1 in the West and 7-9 overall.

The Barton Community College women’s basketball team wrapped up a rugged 2-game road swing to open Jayhawk West action with an 82-75 loss to Seward County at the Green House in Liberal Wednesday night. Barton stands at 0-2 on the season after road losses at Cloud County and Seward – traditional West powers with a combined 28-4 record this season. Barton is now 10-6 overall this year while Seward improves to 14-2. The Cougars will finally return home – where they have played just 5 games this year season – for Barton’s West home opener Saturday against Dodge City. The game will tip at 6 pm.
