The Barton County Community College softball team signed a prize recruit this past weekend, nabbing the South Texas MVP in pitcher Camille Cruz. Cruz is a graduate of Gregory-Portland High School in a suburb of Corpus Christi, where she helped her school to the Region semifinals this past season.

Cruz turned in an impressive senior season, going 27-6 for the Cats this past season. At one point, Cruz tossed 35 straight scoreless innings. She averaged 14 strikeouts per contest this past season. Her junior season, Cruz went 22-3, giving her a combined record of 49-9 her final two season at Gregory-Portland. Just this past week, she was named the MVP of South Texas by the Corpus Christi Caller.

As a junior Cruz was named the Pitcher of the Year by the Caller, posting that 22-3 record with an impressive ERA of just 0.56. She threw 4 no-hitters among her 25 complete games, 13 of which were shutouts. Cruz walked just 22 batters in her 150 innings of work. Gregory-Portland also made it to the regional semifinals her junior season as well. She was a 2nd team All-State pick in Class 4A her junior year.
