For the fourth time this season Barton Community College men's soccer goalkeeper Mauricio Vargas has been named the KJCCC Verizon Wireless Goalkeeper of the Week.  The honor marks the second consecutive week Vargas and the Cougar defense has been selected for the achievement.   Despite the Cougars losing two games last weekend in Dallas, Texas, to two highly nationally ranked teams, Vargas had tremendous effort in goal.   Facing thirty-five shots on goal Vargas saved eighty-six percent of the scoring attempts.  Against No. 3 Tyler Junior College, Vargas made an astounding twenty-five saves in a ninety-ninth minute extra time 1-0 loss.

Earning the honor for the eighth time in his Cougar career, Vargas also was named the NJCAA Goalkeeper of the Week this season in week four.  The first team all-conference goalkeeper his freshman season in posting ten shutouts, Vargas now has fourteen shutouts ranking him fourth on the Barton history charts just one away from matching the efforts of Trevor Laborda in the 2001-2002 seasons.

Barton will take a 7-1-0 conference and 8-3-1 record overall to Overland Park, Kansas, on Saturday to take on nationally receiving votes Johnson County Community College in a pivotal conference battle at 3:30 p.m.
