Vargas awarded conference goalkeeper of the week for second consecutive week

For the fourth time this season Barton Community College men’s soccer goalkeeper Mauricio Vargas has been named the KJCCC Verizon Wireless Goalkeeper of the Week. The honor marks the second consecutive week Vargas and the Cougar defense has been selected for the achievement. Despite the Cougars losing two games last weekend in Dallas, Texas, to two highly nationally ranked teams, Vargas had tremendous effort in goal. Facing thirty-five shots on goal Vargas saved eighty-six percent of the scoring attempts. Against No. 3 Tyler Junior College, Vargas made an astounding twenty-five saves in a ninety-ninth minute extra time 1-0 loss.
