Key named Jayhawk Conference men’s basketball player of the week
For the second time this conference season, Barton Community College men’s basketball player Algie Key has been named the KJCCC Verizon Wireless Player of the Week. The sophomore from Decatur, Georgia, did whatever it took to help his No. 25 ranked Cougars get a couple of victories this past week. In Wednesday’s victory over Dodge City, Key scored 30 points and grabbed 6 rebounds marking the third time this season and sixth in his career to surpass a thirty-point performance. Saturday in the Cougars win over Garden City, Key adjusted his role to post a double-double ten point eleven rebound performance to go along with dishing out six assists marking the fifth time this season and twelfth of Key’s career to put up a double-double performance. Sharing the weekly honor with Seward County Community College’s Kaheem Ransom, Key’s performances averaged 50% shooting from the field, 77.8% from the free throw line while averaging 20 points, 8.5 rebounds, and 4.0 assists per contest.

For the season Key averages 18.3 points per game, grabs 6.3 rebounds, and leads the team dishing out 3.8 assists and two steals per contest. Barton's all-time leader in free throw attempts and made, Key's 1092 career points rank him eighth all-time just eleven points from Eric Bush's 1103 set during the 1999-01 seasons. Barton will next play the conference leader and nationally ranked Hutchinson Community College on Wednesday as the Cougars will wrap up its four-game seven-day brutal stretch of the schedule. Game time is set for 7:30 p.m. at the Barton Gym.
