Cougars pick up second road victory, improve to 5-0
Picking up its second road win of the young season, the Barton men’s basketball team pulled away late for a 64-57 victory over Kansas City Kansas Community College Tuesday night in Kansas City. The win was the second for the Cougars away from friendly confines of the Barton Gym and improved the Cougars to 5-0 on the season while keeping KCK winless on the season in four games. Barton will continue is tour away from home with a pair of games in Salina this weekend. On Friday the Cougars will take on Kansas State University-Salina followed by Saturday's contest against Northwest Kansas Technical College, a team Barton defeated 92-90 on November 3 at the Barton Gym. Game times for both contests this weekend are at 3:00 p.m. at the Student Life Center on the campus of KSU-Salina.
The Cougars led throughout the first half until the Blue Devils took their first lead with 16:17 remaining in the contest. The teams traded leads for the next six minutes until sophomore Algie Key's two free throws and strong inside bucket gave the Cougars the lead for good with just under ten minutes remaining. Holding a five point lead, Raheem Johnson's fast break dunk off a Trey Unrau pass capped off a Cougar 4-0 run pushing Barton's lead to eight with two minutes remaining that sealed the fate of the Blue Devils.
Algie Key's seventeen points led Barton in scoring while Andell Cumberbatch and Kevin Kuteyi finished with nine points each. Dominique Washington led all players with eighteen and was joined by Jordan Banks' eleven and D.J. Booker's ten points for the Blue Devils.
