Cougars move to 4-0 with wins at Barton Classic
The Barton County Community College men's basketball team received its 1st test of the season Saturday night at the Barton Classic, coming away with a passing grade in a 77-67 win over Brown Mackie at the Barton Gym. Friday night the Cougars rolled to a 115-50 win over the Sterling JV and now stand 4-0 on the young season. The Cougars will be back on the floor this weekend when they host the Booster Club Classic. It will be the final home games of the non conference portion of the schedule. The Cougars won't be back at the Barton Gym until Jan. 5 to host Dodge City.

Highlights
Friday was very little work for the Cougars as they jumped to a 26-3 lead on the Sterling JV and pushed the lead to 30 points with 7 minutes left in the half. By halftime the lead had reached 45 points at 58-13. Barton never led by less than 50 after the 1st 3 minutes of the 2nd half and led by as many as 73 at 104-31 with 6:30 to play in the game.

Nyika Williams led 7 Cougars in double figures with 20 points while Matt Simmons recorded another double-double with 14 points and 11 rebounds. Wagner Bueno also had a double-double with 10 points and 11 rebounds. Scott Schneider scored 17, Chris Jackson and Chip Steven added 12 each and Antowine Lamb had 10. Jackson added 7 assists as well.

Saturday Barton led most of the way but the teams traded the lead late in the 1st half with the Cougars taking a 34-33 lead to half on a Jackson 3-pointer with 2 seconds left. The Lions took a brief lead to start the 2nd half but a 14-0 run followed by Barton for a 48-35 lead. Jackson scored 8 straight at one point in the run, scoring off a steal and a layup and following with back-to-back 3's the next 2 trips down the court.

The Cougars held a double digit lead on the Lions until 9 minutes remained in the game. Brown Mackie eventually got the lead down to 5 points t 63-58 with 6:30 to play but a quick 6-0 spurt by the Cougars pushed the lead back to 11.

Jackson scored 21 for Barton followed by Qa'rrann Calhoun with 20. Javon Parris added 14 while Williams and Simmons led Barton with 12 and 11 rebounds.
