Barton wins finale in Air Force Prep Classic
The Barton County Community College men’s basketball team had an up and down weekend in Colorado Springs at the Air Force Prep Classic. The final note, however, was an up note as the Cougars captured the finale of the event over previously unbeaten Air Force Prep. The Cougars dropped the first two games of the Classic – the first two losses of the season – to Northeastern (Colo) Junior College and New Mexico Military Institute. The 1-2 mark gives the Cougars a 3-2 record as they head to another tough weekend in Coffeyville for games with Neosho and No. 3 Coffeyville.

Highlights
The Cougars played their best game of the Classic on the final night of competition as they knocked previously unbeaten Air Force Prep by a 73-70 score. Barton led most of the contest, including some double digits lead before holding off the Prep for the win and 1-2 mark in the Classic. Aubrey Bruner scored 22 points to pace the Cougars thanks to a 5-of-9 effort from behind the 3-point line. As a team Barton hit 9-of-18 treys, its best effort of the year. Antanas Kavaliauskas followed with 16 points and a team-high 7 rebounds. Marcus Barrett and Scott Elliott added 11 and 10 as well as 4 assists each.
Friday night the Cougars dropped a disappointing overtime decision to New Mexico Military, 66-64. The Cougars led for much this contest as well before the Mustangs caught Barton and won the contest in overtime. Lukasz Wisneiwski came off the bench to score 13 for the Cougars and Kavaliauskas added 11 and 10 rebounds.
Thursday, Barton got off to a terrible start to the Classic as Northeastern Junior College bolted out of the gates to a 45-18 halftime lead on Barton. Barton kept whittling away at the lead in the 2nd half, trimming to 11 before falling by the 73-60 count. Bruner and Kavaliauskas each had 15 in a losing effort while Barrett added 12 off the bench.
