Former Barton County Community College All-American Robert Whaley was selected in the 2nd round of the NBA Draft Tuesday night. Whaley played for the Barton men’s basketball team during the 2001-02 and 2002-03 seasons when he was named All-American twice. He is the 3rd former Cougar selected in the draft.

Craig Fletchall was named as the new men’s basketball coach at Barton County Community College Wednesday afternoon when the college’s Board of Trustee approved his hiring at its monthly meeting. Fletchall becomes the school’s 11th men’s basketball coach, replacing Dave Campbell, who resigned after two years at the Cougar’s coach.

Dave ‘Soupy’ Campbell resigned his post as the men’s basketball coach at Barton County Community College after guiding the program for two seasons. Barton’s Board of Trustees accepted Campbell’s resignation at a special Board meeting today.

Antanas Kavaliauskas capped off a great sophomore season for the Barton County Community College men’s basketball team by earning a selection to the All-Jayhawk West 1st team. Teammate Aubrey Bruner was also recognized for his play during his sophomore season, being tabbed an honorable mention selection by the coaches in the West. Kavaliauskas also earned a 1st team All-Region VI selection as well.

The Barton County Community College men’s basketball team completed a tough journey Saturday night, ending what has been a very trying basketball campaign. The Cougars finished the season with a 69-63 loss to Seward County at the Greenhouse in Liberal. Barton, which finished with a 13-17 mark, will not participate in the post season due to self-imposed sanctions by the college. The Cougars did, however, finish in a tie for 3rd place in the Jayhawk West with an 8-8 conference mark. Seward County finished 2nd in the West with an 11-5 record and will take a 22-8 record into Region VI playoff action.

The Barton County Community College men’s basketball team has just one game left on the slate for the season. And with no post season in the future for the Cougars, Barton is doing all it can to finish as high as possible in the Jayhawk West. Right now the Cougars have their eye on 3rd place, exactly where they sit after picking up a 43-41 road win in Dodge City at the Civic Center Wednesday night. Barton moves to 8-7 in the West and in a tie for 3rd place with Cloud County with one game to play. The Cougars are 13-16 overall. Dodge City fell to 13-15 overall and 5-10 in West play. Barton wraps up the season with a trip to Liberal to take on Seward County Saturday.

The Barton County Community College men’s basketball team concluded its home season with a 70-68 thriller over Cloud County Saturday night at the Barton County Gym. The Cougars led for most of the game before having to rally then hold off the Thunderbirds for the win. Barton moved into a 3rd place in the conference in the loss column with the win at 7-7 in West play and 12-16 overall. Cloud is now 8-7 in the West and 15-13 overall. Barton still has two road games left at Dodge and Seward.

The Barton County Community College men’s basketball team didn’t get the breaks in the 2nd half Wednesday night as Butler County came into the Barton County Gym and pulled off the upset over the Cougars in Jayhawk West action. Butler won the see saw affair by a 63-59 score over the Cougars. The loss drops the Cougars to 11-16 and secures a losing season for the Cougars. Barton is now 6-7 in West play with 3 games to play. Butler has now won 3 straight and improve to 5-8 in the West and 16-11 overall. Cloud County visits in the final home game of the season Saturday. It is Hall of Fame night as 3 Olympic Gold Medal winners take their place in the Barton County Hall.

The Barton County Community College men’s basketball team emphatically put an end to its brief 2-game losing streak with an 81-48 drubbing of Hutchinson Saturday night at the Barton County Gym. The Cougars jumped to an early lead and continued to put the pressure on the Blue Dragons the entire contest. The win moves Barton to an even 6-6 in the West and 11-15 overall while Hutchinson falls to 5-7 in the West and 15-9 overall. The Cougars are back at home Wednesday against Butler County in a 7:30 pm tip.

The Barton County Community College men’s basketball team came up short in its bid for 3 straight wins for the 1st time this season. Barton battled with the West leading Garden City Broncbusters the entire game but came up on the short end, 57-54, Wednesday night at the Barton County Gym. The Cougars fell to 10-14 with the loss and 5-5 in the West while Garden City improves to 16-7 and 8-1. The Cougars will have Saturday off before traveling to Colby Wednesday for its next action.

The Barton County Community College men’s basketball team earned a big road win Saturday night, rolling to an 87-69 win at the Beaver Dome in Pratt. The win at West’s 2nd place team’s home floor was the 1st time since the season-opening weekend the Cougars have put together back-to-back wins. Barton moved to within a game of 2nd place in the West with the win, now 5-4 in West play. Barton is 10-13 overall. Pratt fell to 6-3 and into a tie with Seward County in 2nd place in West play with the loss and 13-10 overall. Barton will host West leading Garden City (7-1, 15-7) Wednesday at the Barton County Gym.

The Barton County Community College men’s basketball team jumped out to a big lead, lost that lead, then rallied for a 83-66 win over Seward County Wednesday night at the Barton County Gym in Jayhawk West play. The Cougars made it 3 in a row at home with the win and improved to 4-4 at the halfway point of the Jayhawk West race. Barton is 9-13 overall. Seward County fell to 5-3 in the West and 16-6 overall on the season. Barton will travel to Pratt Saturday for West play at 8 pm.

The Barton County Community College men’s basketball team continues to look for back-to-back wins for the 1st time since the opening weekend after falling on the road to Cloud County Saturday night. The Cougars lost to the Thunderbirds by a 61-58 count in Arley Bryant Gym at Concordia. Barton is now 8-13 on the season and 3-4 in Jayhawk West play while Cloud County keeps itself in the West race at 4-3 and 11-9 overall.

The Barton County Community College men’s basketball team bounced right back from a tough loss Saturday night to win its 3rd game in the last four Jayhawk West outings. The Cougars knocked off Dodge City 71-56 at the Barton County Gym Wednesday night to even its West mark at 3-3 this season. The Cougars improved to 8-12 overall. Dodge City fell to 2-4 in the West and 10-9 overall with the loss. Barton will look to make it 4 of 5 West games Saturday with a trip to Concordia to take on Cloud County.

The Barton County Community College men’s basketball team led much of the night at the Sports Arena in Hutchinson Saturday, but in the end were not able to bring home a win. The Cougars lost the lead in the final minutes as Hutchinson rallied for a 75-69 win over Barton to end the Cougar’s 2-game winning streak in the West and conclude a 3-game road stretch for Barton. Barton, now 7-12 overall and 2-3 in the West, will return home Wednesday to take on Dodge City. Hutch is also 2-3 in the West and is now 12-5 overall.
