Nehls signs to play for Cougars in 2005
Hays High School's Brock Nehls has signed a letter of intent to play baseball next season for Barton County Community College, continuing in the footsteps of several past Hays High Indians. Nehls will be a senior on the Indians team this spring, playing both shortstop and pitching for Indian coach Frank Leo.



As a junior, Nehls earned All-Western Athletic Conference honors on the mound, posting a very low 1.40 ERA in 42 innings pitched. Nehls record was just 2-4, but he struck out 32 batters and walked just 4 to earn the All Conference honors. At the plate, Nehls hit .288 for the Indians with 11 RBI and 6 stolen bases. He also fielded .988 from his shortstop and pitching spots.

During the summer, Nehls has played for the Hays American Legion teams, hitting .300 last season with 22 RBI and 12 stolen bases. On the mound he was 6-3 with a 3.21 ERA in 78 innings of work. Nehls struck out 68 batters and walked 12 while posting 2 saves. In addition, Nehls is a starter on this year Hays High basketball team, where he has lettered 3 years.
