Cougars split West games with Cloud County
The Barton County Community College baseball team had its winning streak snapped at 8 games Sunday afternoon with a loss in the second game of a doubleheader. The Cougars had extended the streak to 8 with a 15-6 win in the opener over Cloud County in Concordia, but an 8-5 loss in the nightcap ended that streak.



The Cougars are now 20-12 overall and 9-5 in the West. Barton still stands in 3rd place in the Jayhawk West. Cloud County in an even 15-15 overall and 8-12 in the West.

Highlights
Barton fell behind 4-0 after the two innings of the opener but scored at least 2 runs in each of the next 5 innings for the win. After the bumpy start, Ryan Wagner settled in for the win.

A 4-run 3rd inning evened the score up for Barton. Josh Schaub homered in the inning, scoring Anthony Flores. Travis Oosthoek doubled later in the inning to even the game. That opened the floodgates for the Cougars, who scored 3 in the 4th, 2 in the 5th, 2 in the 6th, and 4 in the 7th. Schaub, Oosthoek, and TJ Liles each drove in 3 runs for the Cougars. Liles hit a 2-run homer in the 7th. Michael Roberts, Jeff Christy, and Glenn Jackson each added a pair of hits.

The looked to be in charge in the 2nd game as well, building a 3-1 lead into the bottom of the 4th. After Cloud made it 3-2 in the 4th, the Thunderbirds scored 6 runs in the bottom of the 5th for an 8-3 lead. Oosthoek and Jackson again had 2 hits for the Cougars and Oosthoek added a pair of RBI as well.
