Herrera leads Barton Women's Cross Country in first distance race of season at ESU Invite #GoBarton

The Barton Community College women's cross country team tested the collegiate 5K distance Friday for the first time of the season as the Cougars ran in its third meet of the season competing in the Emporia State University Invitational held at the Trusler Sports Complex.

Karina Herrera paced the four pack of Cougar entries, clocking a 21:15.44 finishing in 15th place out of the 58-competitor field. Having the lone experience around the Trusler Sports Complex, the sophomore made the most of her notebook shaving seven seconds off her freshman stoppage of 21:21.75.

Koe Schultz slipped just outside the top-20 with a 22nd place time of 21:55.44 topping the trio of first time Cougar 5K runners.

Abigail Behring completed the course in 23:47.61 crossing the line in 40th while Karina Estrada ended her run in 51st with a stoppage of 25:42.29).

The Cougars have three weeks off before returning to action October 14th at 5:30 p.m. at the Ollie Isom Invitational held in El Dorado, KS.
