Suarez leads No. 23 Lady Cougars at Region VI Cross Country Championships

The No. 23 ranked Barton Community College women's cross country team returned to the trail competing Saturday in the Region VI Championships held at the Westar/Prairie Ridge Park Course in Hutchinson, Kansas.   Returning to competition from a three week layoff in the schedule, Barton didn't field a complete team but did have four Lady Cougars entered in the 5k race.

Wilyeska Suarez led the Lady Cougars with a 25th placing at 20:43.52.  Mariah Stein led the remaining three coming in 60th at 22:10.34 with Amira Del Muro placing 65th (22:32.53) and Emilykate Hopson-Boyd crossing the line in 71st (22:57.98).

In the Jayhawk West results, Suarez finished 13th with Stein 31st, Del Muro 34th, and Hopson-Boyd 37th.

Barton will have two weeks to prepare before the NJCAA Division I Championship to be held Saturday, November 12, in El Dorado, Kansas.  The Lady Cougars are also expected to be in full strength welcoming the return of Mirena Goncalves who was held out of the Region VI meet nursing an ailment.
