Barton women's cross country team finishes 23rd at Chile Pepper Festival, Goncalves with seventh placing

The Barton Community College women's cross country team finished 23rd in a field of forty-teams this past Saturday at the 28th Annual Chile Pepper Festival held in Fayetteville, Arkansas.  

Fielding a team for the first time this season, the Lady Cougars were again led by Mirena Goncalves.   The freshman from Venezuela placed seventh amongst the field of approximately 315 runners completing the 5k race in 17:38.35 while fellow Venezuelan newcomer Wilyeska Suarez placed 80th in 19:21.79.

Mariah Stein led the final three Cougars with 21:08.38 to place 180th as Emilykate Hopson-Boyd crossed in 197th in 21:39.83 and Amira Del Muro stopping the clock 21:59.84 in 209th place.

Barton's next competition will come this Saturday as the Lady Cougars compete in the FHSU Tiger Open held at the Sand Plum Cross Country Course in Victoria, Kansas.
