Barton's Nixon garners conference honor, Reyes earns All-Tournament distinction for 20th ranked Barton Volleyball #GoBarton

A pair of honors for last week's performance came to the Barton Community College volleyball team as the 20th ranked Cougars opened conference play with a victory before going 3-1 at the McCook Invite this past weekend.

Outside hitter Kassidy Nixon had a tremendous overall performances in the Cougars' five matches to earn the KJCCC Offensive Player of the Week. Playing all sets in Barton's matches, Nixon averaged 3.24 kills per set on .319 overall hitting. Nixon wrapped up the week hitting a career high .636 attack, matching her career high 14 kills coming on 22 attempts without an error. One day prior Nixon had set her career high 14 kills against Gillette, adding double figure digs in the those pair of 14-kill matches to post her 2nd and 3rd double-double of the redshirt freshman's career. Playing all six rotations, Nixon added 69 digs for a team second best 4.06 per set for the weekend including another career high by collecting 18 digs against Laramie County.

Right side hitter Phoebe Reyes also had a solid week and earned the squad its second All-Tournament honors as freshman setter Elena Stankovic made the All-Tournament team earlier in the season at the Cougars' opening weekend at the McCook Invitational.

Most recently at McCook's second Invitational of the season, Reyes' 40 kills at 2.86 per set were second behind Nixon's 46 kills. Hitting for .189, the freshman added 11 blocks, three solo with eight assisted, which included a career high six coming in the weekend's final match sweep of Southeast Community College.

Now 11-2 on the year, Barton gets back into conference play at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday at Dodge City Community College before a two-match homestand beginning Monday hosting Seward County Community College followed by Cloud County Community College on Wednesday.
