The Barton Community College volleyball program received distinguished Honor Roll academic honors Monday as announced by the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) for the 2017-18 academic year.
The award marks the sixth straight year a team under Head Coach Brandon Stephenson has received the award and is the 10th such honor in program history. Having finished runner-up in the NJCAA last season, the Cougars captured the academic national title this season with a 3.78 GPA behind three individuals with a perfect 4.0 GPA and an additional five members exceeding a 3.60 GPA mark.
The award, which was initiated in the 1992-93 academic year, honors collegiate and high school volleyball teams that displayed excellence in the classroom during the school year by maintaining at least a 3.30 cumulative team grade-point average.
