Cougars sweep Dodge City for fourth straight win

The Barton Community College volleyball team avenged an early season loss to Dodge City Community College taking care of Conquistadors in straight sets Monday night at the Barton Gym.  Failing to convert six match points in a five-set loss on August 31 in Dodge City, the Cougars were all business on their home floor taking care of the Conquistadors 25-14, 25-16, and 25-19.   Winning their fourth straight improving to 20-5 on the season, the Cougars helped solidify their fourth place conference standing at 7-3 while dropping Dodge City into a tie for sixth place at 3-6 and 14-10 on the year.  Next up for Barton will be a rare Friday night match as the Cougars travel to take on Butler Community College.  Originally scheduled for Saturday in El Dorado, the match has been moved due to water damage to the Grizzlies gymnasium as the teams will square off Towanda, Kansas, in a 6:30 p.m. first serve at Circle High School.

"It was a good solid victory," said Head Coach Brandon Stephenson.  "The girls started strong and carried through to the finish which I liked.   We got through this match and now we have to turn our attention to the Butler match." 

Nathalia Gouveia had a monster night for the Cougars leading with seventeen of the team's thirty-seven kills in thirty attempts for a .500 attack while just missing her ninth double-double of the season finishing with nine digs.  Monique Oliveira was also solid from the attack with a .345 putting down eleven kills on twenty-nine swings while leading the Cougars with twelve digs in posting her tenth double-double of the season.  Olivia Naccarato led with four of the Cougars' ten aces with Leah Fisher close behind at three.   Carolina Goncalves put up thirty-two assists eclipsed the thirty-assist mark for the fifteenth time finishing with thirty-two while being joined by Lydia Konrade and Gouveia with one service ace each.
